Abstract

 THE INTERACTION BETWEEN TRANSPORT PHENOMENA AND KINETICS WAS STUDIED IN A CATALYTIC FIXED BED REACTOR FOR OXIDATIVE COUPLING OF METHANE, AS THE MAIN COMPONENT OF NATURAL GAS. THE SET OF GOVERNING EQUATIONS INCLUDING FLOW, ENERGY AND MASS WERE SOLVED NUMERICALLY IN CONJUNCTION WITH USER DEFINED SUBROUTINES TO MODEL THE KINETICS OF REACTION. THE FINITE VOLUME METHOD (FLUENT CODE) WAS USED TO 3D CFD SIMULATIONS WITH HETEROGENEOUS AND HOMOGENEOUS REACTIONS SCHEMES. THE MODEL IS USED TO ANALYZE THE EFFECTS OF THE FEED GAS COMPOSITION ON THE CONVERSION AND SELECTIVITY REACTOR PERFORMANCE.
