Abstract

 IN THIS STUDY, A SHELL–CORE OF COC2O4/AP NANO COMPOSITE WAS SYNTHESIZED SUCCESSFULLY BY A LIQUID DEPOSITION METHOD AT ROOM TEMPERATURE AND THE VARIOUS RATIO OF COC2O4:AP. THE STRUCTURE OF NANO COMPOSITE WAS CHARACTERIZED BY SEM, AND XRD. THE SEM ANALYSIS REVEALED THAT COC2O4 NANOPARTICLES CAN BE DEPOSITED ON THE SURFACE OF AP PARTICLES IN TWO MANNERS, AS A CONTINUOUS THIN FILM OR SMALL CLUSTERS ATTACHED TO AP. THE CATALYTIC PERFORMANCE OF THIS SYNTHESIZED SAMPLES WAS EVALUATED BY THE THERMAL DECOMPOSITION OF AMMONIUM PERCHLORATE (AP) BY DSC AND TG IN THE RANGE OF 25-500OC. DURING THE THERMAL DECOMPOSITION PROCESS, COC2O4 CAN BE DECOMPOSED TO CO3O4 NANOPARTICLES, DUE TO THE BURNING RATE CATALYSIS OF AP. COMPARED TO THE THERMAL DECOMPOSITION OF PURE AP, ADDITION OF CO3O4 NANOPARTICLES (1%, 2%, AND 3% BY MASS) DECREASED THE DECOMPOSITION TEMPERATURE OF AP FROM 398OC TO 326OC, 297OC, 290OC AND INCREASING THE HEAT RELEASE FROM 555.43J/G TO 1314.21J/G, 1111.55J/G, 1240.45J/G, RESPECTIVELY. THE COC2O4/AP SHELL–CORE NANO COMPOSITE CAN HAVE A PROMISING APPLICATION IN THE ROCKET PROPELLANT FOR IMPROVING THE THERMAL-CATALYTIC DECOMPOSITION PERFORMANCE OF AP.
