Abstract

 SILVER NANOPARTICLES (AG NPS) HAVE RECENTLY ATTRACTED MUCH INTEREST DUE TO THEIR DISTINCT PROPERTIES AND POTENTIAL APPLICATIONS IN VARIOUS FIELDS INCLUDING BIOMEDICAL [1]. TO AVOID AGGREGATION OF AG NPS IN SOLUTION SUPPORTING OF THESE NANOPARTICLES ON INERT MATERIALS HAS BEEN USED [2]. ALTHOUGH MANY TWO-COMPONENT COMPOSITE WHICH CONTAIN AG NPS HAVE BEEN REPORTED, THREE COMPONENT MAGNETIC COMPOSITE CONTAINING AG NPS HAVE NOT YET BEEN WIDELY EXPLORED [3,4].THEREFORE, IN THIS RESEARCH WORK WE HAVE SYNTHESIZED MAGNETICALLY RESPONSIVE THREE-COMPONENT COFE2O4@SIO2@AG NANO COMPOSITE. AFTER SYNTHESIZING THIS NANO COMPOSITEIT WAS CHARACTERIZED BY FT-IR, XRD, SEM, TEM AND VSM. THE ANTIBACTERIAL ACTIVITY OF THE COMPOSITE WAS STUDIED AGAINST SOME GRAM-NEGATIVE AND GRAM-POSITIVE BACTERIA AND COMPARED TO STANDARD ANTIBACTERIAL DRUGS. PAPER DISK DIFFUSION ASSAY ALSO SHOWED THAT COFE2O4@SIO2@AG NANO COMPOSITEIN COMBINATION WITH STREPTOMYCIN HAS MUCH HIGHER ANTIBACTERIAL ABILITY TOWARD BOTH TYPES OF BACTERIA COMPARED WITH THE COFE2O4@SIO2@AG ALONE. THAT IS, THE ANTIBACTERIAL PERFORMANCE OF COFE2O4@SIO2@AG IS ENHANCED WHEN IT WAS COMBINED WITH STREPTOMYCIN. THE AS-PREPARED COFE2O4@SIO2@AG COMPOSITE CAN BE READILY REMOVED FROM SOLUTION AFTER TREATMENT BY MAGNETIC DECANTATION AND IS NOT HARMFUL FOR THE AQUA SYSTEM.
