Abstract

 AMMONIUM PERCHLORATE (AP) IS ONE OF THE MAIN OXIDIZING AGENT IN COMPOSITE SOLID PROPELLANTS, IN WHICH AP PLAYS A SIGNIFICANT ROLE IN THE BURNING PROCESS OF THE PROPELLANT. THE BURNING RATE OF AP IS MODIFIED BY THE ADDITION OF SMALL AMOUNT OF ADDITIVES [1]. METAL OXIDES (MOX) ARE USED WIDELY AS A KIND OF EFFICIENT CATALYST FOR THERMAL DECOMPOSITION OF AP [2]. MOX NANO PARTICLES ARE EXPECTED TO FORM THE EXTERNAL SHELL SO THAT THE SHELL-CORE NANOCOMPOSITES OF MOX/AP ARE PRODUCED. IN FACT, SYNTHESIZED MOX NANOCOMPOSITES ARE HOMOGENEOUSLY DISTRIBUTED ON THE SURFACE OF AP TO OVERCOME THE MOX AGGLOMERATION FOR THE CONVENTIONALLY MECHANICAL MIXTURE. IN THIS STUDY, THE SHELL-CORE NANOCOMPOSITES OF CUO/AP WERE SUCCESSFULLY SYNTHESIZED BY FACILE LIQUID DEPOSITION METHOD AT ROOM TEMPERATURE FOR ENHANCING THEIR SELF-CATALYTIC PROPERTIES IN THE DECOMPOSITION OF AP. IN THIS WORK CUCL2 WAS USED TO PREPARE THE SHELL (CUO)/CORE (AP) WITH VARIOUS MASS RATIO OF 4:100, 6:100, 8:100. THE SELF–CATALYTIC PROPERTIES OF CUO/AP NANOCOMPOSITES IN THE THERMAL DECOMPOSITION OF AP WERE INVESTIGATED BY DIFFERENTIAL SCANNING CALORIMETRY (DSC) MEASUREMENTS. THE RESULTS SHOW THAT THE TEMPERATURE OF DECOMPOSITION WAS DECREASED WHILE THE RELEASED ENERGY WAS INCREASED.
