SYNTHESIS OF BCP NANO PARTICLES VIA SOLID STATE REACTION

Abstract

 BCP NAONOPARTICLES OF HYDROXYAPATITE (HA) WITH 5 WT% OF AN OXIDE GLASS (50 MOL% CAO AND 50 MOL% P2O5 AND 0.8 MOL% MGO) WERE PREPARED USING THE SOLID STATE REACTION METHOD. THE ADDITION OF THE GLASS SIGNIFICANTLY ENHANCED THE FORMATION OF BCP PHASE FROM HA AND PHOSPHATE GLASS. AMONG THE CALCIUM PHOSPHATES, WHILE HYDROXYAPATITE IS CONSIDERED AS MOST STABLE IN CONTACT WITH BODY FLUIDS, CALCIUM PHOSPHATE GLASS SHOWS HIGH BIOACTIVITY. THE PRESENCE OF B-TCP (BETA TRICALCIUM PHOSPHATE) PROMOTES A FASTER OSSEO INTEGRATION OF THE CALCIUM PHOSPHATE BIOMATERIALS. OXIDE CALCIUM PHOSPHATE GLASS WAS PREPARED FROM PRECURSORS P2O5, CACO3 AND MGO. THE MIXED POWDERS WERE PLACED IN AN ALUMINA CRUCIBLE AND MELTED IN AN ELECTRIC FURNACE AT THE TEMPERATURE ABOVE 900.C FOR 20 MIN. HYDROXYAPETITE WAS MIXED WITH 5 WT% OF THE GLASS AFTER FAST MILLING IT. THE POWDERS WERE UNIAXIALLY PRESSED AT 120 MPA. RESULTING PLATES WERE FINALLY HEAT TREATED IN AIR AT 1,250 C FOR 2 H. PHASE DEVELOPMENT, MICROSTRUCTURAL AND CHEMICAL CHARACTERISTICS, WERE STUDIED BY XRD, FESEM AND ICP. XRD PATTERNS SHOWED THE PRESENCE OF HA AND TCP PHASES. FESEM ANALYSIS REVEALAD THE NANOMETRIC SIZE OF FINAL POWDERS ICP TEST CONFIRMED THE PRESENCE OF MAGNESIUM, CALCIUM AND PHOSPHORUS EELEMENTS. OTHER METHODS OF BCP NANOPARTICLES SYNTHESIS ARE TOO COMPLICATED COMPARED TO THE SOLID STATE REACTION USED IN THIS RESEARCH. SOME PARAMETERS PLAYING IMPORTANT ROLES IN THE NANOMETRIC CHARACTERISTICS OF THE BCP NANOPARTICLES ARE SUBJECT OF THE STUDY IN OUR LABORATORY.
