Abstract

 DURING THE PAST FEW YEARS THE SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF MICROPOROUS METAL-ORGANIC FRAMEWORKS (MOFS), IS ONE OF THE MOST RAPIDLY DEVELOPING AREAS OF CHEMICAL SCIENCE [1]. THESE MATERIALS HAVE ENORMOUS POTENTIAL FOR MANY STRUCTURE-RELATED APPLICATIONS. THIS INCLUDES THE MORE TRADITIONAL AREAS OF STORAGE, SEPARATION OR CONTROLLED RELEASE OF GASES, CATALYSIS, SENSING, AND DRUG DELIVERY, WHICH ARE BASED ON THE PORE SIZE AND SHAPE AS WELL AS THE HOST-GUEST INTERACTIONS INVOLVED [2]. THE RESPECTIVE REACTIONS OF THE ZNII ION AND THE N, N’-BIPYRIDINE-TYPE RIGID LINKER, 1, 4-BIS (4-PYRIDYL) -2, 3-DIAZA-2, 3-BUTADIENE (4-BPDB), MIXED WITH AMINO-1, 4-BENZENEDICARBOXYLATE (NH2-BDC) AFFORDED A NOVEL TWO-FOLD INTERPENETRATED MICROPOROUS METAL-ORGANIC FRAMEWORK, [ZN (NH2-BDC) (4-BPDB)].2DMF (1) (SEE FIG.1).
