HIGHLY EFFICIENT SYNTHESIS OF NEW CHROMENE DYES USING ZN-SBA-15

Abstract

 CHROMENES (BENZOPYRANS) WHICH OCCUR IN MANY BIOLOGICALLY ACTIVE COMPOUNDS ARE GETTING INCREASING SIGNIFICANT AS THEY ARE USED AS ANTIHYPERTENSIVE, HYPOGLYCAEMIC, CARDIO-PROTECTIVE, ANTIVIRUS, ANTITUMOR AND ANTI HIV AGENTS. THEY ALSO SHOW ANTI-CANCER, ANALGESIC, ANTI-INFLAMMATORY, ANTIBACTERIAL AND ANTI-VIRAL ACTIVITIES [1]. VARIOUS SYNTHETIC METHODS ARE FOUND IN THE LITERATURE FOR THE SYNTHESIS OF CHROMENE DERIVATIVES [2-3].USING MESOPOROUS CATALYSTS ARE A GOOD SOURCE OF ATTRACTION, OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES IN SYNTHETIC CHEMISTRY [4]. RECENTLY OUR RESEARCH TEAM HAVE PREPARED SOME OF MESOPOROUS CATALYSTS CONTAINING VARIOUS LEWIS ACIDS SUPPORTED BY SBA-15. WE HAVE ALREADY REPORTED THE EFFICIENT PROCEDURES FOR THE SYNTHESIS OF CHROMENE DERIVATIVES. HERE IN WE WISH TO REPORT SOME NEW CHROMENE DERIVATIVES WHICH HAVE SHOWN INTERESTING PHOTOPHYSICAL PROPERTIES IN DIFFERENT SOLVENTS. IN THIS EFFICIENT AND SIMPLE PROCEDURE SOME AZO DYE CHROMENES3 ARE SYNTHESIZED BY CONDENSATION OF SALICYLALDEHYDES 1 AND ACETYLACETONE 2 USING ZN-SBA-15 AS CATALYST. PRODUCTS 3 ARE PURIFIED BY FLASH CHROMATOGRAPHY AND THEIR STRUCTURE ARE ELUCIDATED BY SPECTROSCOPIC METHODS. NEW ASPECTS OF THIS PROCEDURE WILL BE PRESENTED AND DISCUSSED.
