EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF CO2/CH4 SEPERATION BY MATRIMID 5218-TIO2 NANOCOMPOSITE MEMBRANE

Abstract

 APPLYING MEMBRANES FOR GAS SEPARATION IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT AND DEVELOPING METHODS FOR REMOVAL OF GAS POLLUTANTS IN INDUSTRIES. IN THIS INVESTIGATION TITANIUM OXIDE–MATRIMID NANOCOMPOSITE WAS PREPARED AS MEMBRANE AND ITS PERMEABILITY AND SELECTIVITY FOR SEPARATION OF CARBON DIOXIDE IN CO2/CH4 MIXTURE WERE STUDIED. THE EFFECT OF PRESSURE ON THE PERFORMANCE OF NANOCOMPOSITE MEMBRANE WAS ALSO EXAMINED AND WAS COMPARED WITH THAT OF VIRGIN POLYMER MEMBRANE. THE RESULTS SHOWED THAT BY INCREASING TITANIUM DIOXIDE NANOPARTICLES, THE PERMEABILITY INCREASES WHILE THE SELECTIVITY REDUCES. THIS EFFECT WAS MORE PRONOUNCED FOR PERMEABILITY RATHER THAN SELECTIVITY. INCREASING OPERATIONAL PRESSURE LEAD TO REDUCTION IN BOTH PERMEABILITY AND SELECTIVITY.
