CORRELATIONS FOR DROP SIZE IN WATER-BASED SIO2 NANOFLUIDS

Abstract

 THIS WORK PRESENTS EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF TOLUENE DROP SIZE IN SIO2 NANOFLUIDS IN A SINGLE STAGE HORIZONTAL MIXER-SETTLER. DROP SIZE MEASUREMENTS HAVE BEEN PERFORMED FOR DIFFERENT VALUES OF IMPELLER SPEED, DISPERSED PHASE VOLUME FRACTION, AND SIO2 CONCENTRATION. EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS HAVE BEEN USED TO OBTAIN EMPIRICAL CORRELATIONS FOR MEAN DROP SIZE IN THE SYSTEMS CONTAINING DIFFERENT SIO2 CONCENTRATIONS. IT HAS BEEN SHOWN THAT THE DERIVED CORRELATIONS ARE IN A GOOD AGREEMENT WITH THE EXPERIMENTAL DATA WITH AARD LESS THAN 1%. RESULTS INDICATE THAT THE CONSTANTS OF CORRELATIONS ARE GOVERNED BY SIO2 NANOPARTICLES CONCENTRATION IN NANOFLUIDS AND THE CORRELATIONS SHOW SOME DEVIATIONS FROM HINZE-KOLMOGOROV’S THEORY. FURTHERMORE, DROPS SIZE AND THE INCREASING EFFECT OF THE DISPERSED PHASE VOLUME FRACTION ON IT REDUCE WITH INCREASING SIO2 CONCENTRATIONS WHILE WEBER NUMBER INCREASES.
