Abstract

 THERMOELECTRIC (TE) MATERIALS HAVE POTENTIAL APPLICATIONS IN SOLID-STATE ELECTRONIC COOLING AND POWER GENERATION WITH MANY ADVANTAGES SUCH AS LONG LIFE; NO MOVING PARTS, NO EMISSIONS OF TOXIC GASES, LOW MAINTENANCE AND HIGH RELIABILITY [1].IN THIS WORK, ANALYTICALLY PURE CHEMICALS NOMINALLY, BICL3, SBCL3, AND TE POWDER WITH BI: SB: TEMOLE RATIOS OF 0.5: 1.5: 3 WERE USED AS THE STARTING MATERIALS FOR THE SYNTHESIS OF BI0.5SB1.5TE3.THE STARTING MATERIALS WITH THE PH-CONTROLLING ADDITIVE NAOH AND THE ORGANIC COMPLEXING ADDITIVE EDTA WERE PLACED INTO A TEFLON-LINED AUTOCLAVE OF 50ML CAPACITY FILLED WITH 40 ML MIXTURE SOLUTION OF WATER AND ETHANOL (VOLUME RATIO 1: 8). THE AUTOCLAVE WAS HEATED AND MAINTAINED AT 100OC FOR 24H, FOLLOWED BY COOLING THE ROOM TEMPERATURE NATURALLY. THE PRODUCTS WERE FILTERED, WASHED SEVERAL TIMES WITH DISTILLED WATER AND ABSOLUTE ETHANOL, AND THEN FINALLY DRIED IN A VACUUM AT 100OC FOR 6H.HEXAGONAL STRUCTURE AND LATTICE PARAMETERS OF A=4.259 Å, C=30.461 Å AND SPACE GROUP OF R3 M WERE ACHIEVED BY XRD CHARACTERIZATION.BY USING SCHERER EQUATION, THE CRYSTALLITE SIZE OF 20 TO 33 NM WAS OBTAINED [2].FOR BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF THE PRESENT FUNCTIONAL GROUPS, THE FTIR CHARACTERIZATION ON THE SAMPLE WAS ALSO CARRIED OUT.THE SEM IMAGES OF THE FINAL PRODUCT SHOWED THE SAMPLE IS AGGLOMERATED.
