NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF BUBBLE RISE AND BUBBLE SHAPE DEFORMATION USING VOF-PLIC METHOD

Abstract

 IN THE PRESENT WORK, A TWO-PHASE FLOW CODE IS DEVELOPED ON A COLLOCATED GRID FOR AN INCOMPRESSIBLE FLUID USING TWO-DIMENSIONAL NAVIER-STOKES EQUATION. THE VOLUME OF FLUID (VOF) METHOD IS USED TO RECONSTRUCT THE INTERFACE OF A FREELY RISING GAS BUBBLES IN A LIQUID USING THE PIECEWISE LINEAR INTERFACE RECONSTRUCTION (PLIC) METHOD. THE CONTINUM SURFACE FORCE (CSF) MODEL IS USED TO MODEL THE SURFACE TENSION FORCE. THE LIQUID AND GAS PROPERTIES AND BUBBLE DIAMETER ARE SELECTED BASED ON MORTON AND EOTVOS DIMENSIONLESS NUMBERS WITH RESPECT TO THE EXPERIMENTAL DATA. VOF-PLIC METHOD PREDICT MASS CONSERVATION WITH GREAT ACCURACY AND HAS THE ABILITY TO SIMULATE FLUIDS WITH HIGH DENSITY AND VISCOSITY RATIOS. THE VELOCITY AND POSITION OF THE BUBBLE AND VORTEX BEHIND THE BUBBLE WAS SIMULATED PROPERLY. THE NUMERICAL RESULTS ARE COMPARED WITH THE RESULTS OF OTHER EXPERIMENTS AND SIMULATIONS AND SHOWS GOOD AGREEMENT WITH THEM.
