Abstract

 INTRODUCTION: POLYCYCLIC AROMATIC HYDROCARBONS (PAHS) ARE RECOGNIZED MEMBERS OF THE INTERSTELLAR MEDIUM.WIDE VARIETY OF PAH, THEIR CONTRIBUTION IN THE COLLECTED SPECTRA, ESPECIALLY COSMIC UNIDENTIFIED INFRARED BANDS, HAS CAUSED NUMEROUS EXPERIMENTAL AND THEORETICAL INVESTIGATIONS ON THESE COMPOUNDS FROM ASTROCHEMICAL POINTS OF VIEW. NAPHTHALENE (N) IS THE SIMPLEST (BI-CYCLIC) MEMBER OF PAHS. BECAUSE OF ABUNDANT PROTON IN THE INTERSTELLAR MEDIUM, IT IS ALSO POSSIBLE TO HAVE PROTONATED PAH SPECIES THAT MAY CONTRIBUTE TO THE COSMIC AND INTERSTELLAR SPECTRA COLLECTED AT EARTH SURFACE OR SPACE STATIONS.
