PROCESS MODIFICATION AND EXERGY ANALYSIS OF CARBON DIOXIDE ABSORPTION PROCESS USING MEA SOLUTION

Abstract

 A CHEMICAL ABSORPTION, POST-COMBUSTION CO2 CAPTURE UNIT FROM FLUE GAS OF COMBINED CYCLE POWER PLANT HAS BEEN SIMULATED BY PROMAX SOFTWARE AND AN EXERGY ANALYSIS HAS BEEN CONDUCTED INCLUDING IRREVERSIBILITY CALCULATIONS FOR PROCESS UNITS. USING THE EXERGY ANALYSIS THE IRREVERSIBILITIES DUE TO THE ENTROPY GENERATIONS IN THE SYSTEM HAVE BEEN EVALUATED. IN THIS WORK A BASE CASE INCLUDING CONVENTIONAL PROCESS FLOWSHEET OF AMINE ABOSRPTION HAS BEEN COMPARED WITH MODIFIED PROCESS FLOW SHEET CONSISTING OF LEAN VAPOR RECOMPRESSION (LVR) UNIT DOWNSTREAM OF STRIPPER COLUMN AND THE IRREVERSIBILITY RATES AND REBOILER DUTY HAVE BEEN EVALUATED. THE TOTAL WORK DEMAND AND IRREVERSIBILITY WERE DECREASED FROM 4.6 MJ/KG CO2 AND 6.85 MJ/KG CO2 RESPECTIVELY FOR THE BASE CASE CHEMICAL ABSORPTION PROCESS CONFIGURATION TO 3.02 MJ/KG CO2 AND 4.11 MJ/KG CO2 FOR THE MODIFIED CHEMICAL ABSORPTION PROCESS CONFIGURATION OF LEAN VAPOR RECOMPRESSION.
