Abstract

 INTRODUCTION: DYE-SENSITIZED SOLAR CELLS (DSSC) ARE PROMISING NEXT GENERATION ALTERNATIVES TO CONVENTIONAL PHOTOVOLTAIC DEVICES [1]. THERE ARE SOME LOSS MECHANISMS IN DSSCS AMONG WHICH TWO OF THEM PLAYING MAIN ROLLS, ARE I) RECOMBINATION REACTION AT THE ELECTROLYTE/SEMICONDUCTOR INTERFACE, AND II) THE LIGHT ABSORPTION BY TRIIODIDE [2]. TO REDUCE THE ABOVE-MENTIONED DRAWBACKS, RECENTLY TWO NOVEL DONOR-ACCEPTOR TYPE CO-ADSORBENTS, DENOTED BY Y1 AND Y2 (FIG.1), WERE SYNTHESIZED BY OTHERS [3].IN THIS WORK, USING THE TIME-DEPENDENT DENSITY FUNCTIONAL THEORY (TDDFT), WE HAVE INVESTIGATED THE ELECTRONIC STRUCTURE AND OPTICAL RESPONSE OF THESE MOLECULES. FURTHERMORE, WE HAVE CONSIDERED THE SOLVATOCHROMATIC AND DEPROTONATION EFFECTS FOR Y2.
