THE EFFECT OF 8 WEEKS CIRCUIT RESISTANCE EXERCISE ON OX-LDL, HS-CRP, HBA1C AND INSULIN RESISTANCE INDEX IN SEDENTARY POSTMENOPAUSAL WOMEN

Abstract

 INTRODUCTION: AGING AND MENOPAUSE IN WOMEN LEADS TO VARIOUS CHRONIC DISEASES. REGULAR PHYSICAL EXERCISE IMPROVES METABOLIC DISORDERS, INFLAMMATORY MARKERS AND CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASES. THE PURPOSE OF THIS STUDY WAS TO INVESTIGATE THE EFFECT OF 8 WEEKS CIRCLE RESISTANCE TRAINING ON THE OX-LDL, HS-CRP, HBA1C AND INSULIN RESISTANCE INDEX MEASURED IN SEDENTARY POSTMENOPAUSAL WOMEN.METHODOLOGY: 29 SEDENTARY POSTMENOPAUSAL WOMEN (AGE=55.83 ± 4.33 YEARS) WERE SELECTED RANDOMLY AMONG VOLUNTEERS. SUBJECTS WERE DIVIDED INTO TWO GROUPS WITH 15 PATIENTS (BMI=31.81±4.90 KG/M2) AND A CONTROL GROUP OF 14 PATIENTS (BMI=30.22±3.78 KG/M2). THE TRAINING PROGRAM INCLUDES AN EIGHT-WEEK CIRCUIT RESISTANCE TRAINING 3 TIMES A WEEK WITH AN INTENSITY OF %60-%75 OF THE 1RM AND MAXIMUM 60-90 MINUTES PER SESSION. FOR STATISTICAL ANALYSIS THE INDEPENDENT AND DEPENDENT T-TEST WERE USED.RESULTS: AFTER 8 WEEKS, FASTING GLUCOSE (P=0.035), INSULIN RESISTANCE INDEX (P=0.05), BLOOD LEVELS OF HS-CRP (P=0.042), TOTAL CHOLESTEROL (P=0.035), TRIGLYCERIDES (P=0.040), LDL-C (P=0.01) AND URIC ACID (P=0.012) WERE SIGNIFICANTLY DECREASED IN THE RESISTANCE EXERCISE GROUP. ALSO BETWEEN BLOOD LEVELS OF HS-CRP AND LDL-C IN BOTH GROUPS WERE SIGNIFICANTLY DIFFERENT.DISCUSSION: THE RESULTS SHOWED THAT PRACTICING ON CIRCULATING RESISTANCE TRAINING CAN REDUCE THE CAUSES OF METABOLIC DISORDERS, CARDIOVASCULAR AND IMMUNE FUNCTION IN POSTMENOPAUSAL WOMEN.
