INVESTIGATION OF ANODIC OXIDATION OF PAN-BASED CARBON FIBERS IN NAOH AND HNO3 ELECTROLYTES

Abstract

 THE ANODIC BEHAVIOR OF POLYACRYLONITRILE-BASED CARBON FIBERS WAS STUDIED IN VARIOUS ELECTROLYTE SYSTEMS SOLUTIONS. IN THIS STUDY, THE SURFACE OF THE CARBON FIBERS WAS TREATED BY CYCLO-VOLTAMMETRY AND CONSTANT VOLTAGE IN DIFFERENT ELECTROLYTES INCLUDING NAOH, AND HNO3. SOME EFFECTIVE PARAMETERS ON OXIDATION PROCESS SUCH AS TYPE OF THE ELECTROLYTE AND CYCLO-VOLTAMMETRY BEHAVIOR WAS INVESTIGATED. THE SURFACE CHEMISTRY OF THE OXIDIZED CARBON FIBER WAS STUDIED BY EDX. THE ANODIC BEHAVIOR OF CARBON FIBERS WAS ALSO STUDIED BY THE CYCLIC VOLTAMMETRY METHOD IN THE MENTIONED SOLUTIONS. GOOD RESULTS WERE ACHIEVED BY USING NAOH (10 WT%) AS THE ELECTROLYTE SOLUTION.
