Abstract

 IN THIS STUDY, LOW MOLECULAR WEIGHT CHITOSAN NANOPARTICLES WERE PREPARED USING SODIUM TRIPOLYPHOSPHATE (TPP) BY IONIC GELATION METHOD. CHITOSAN WITH LOW MOLECULAR WEIGHT (LMWC) HAS THE ADVANTAGE OF GREATER SOLUBILITY IN WATER COMPARED TO HIGH MOLECULAR WEIGHT. IT IS EASILY DISSOLVED IN WATER AT NEUTRAL PH, SO IT IS USEFUL FOR BIOLOGICAL APPLICATIONS. A LOW MOLECULAR WEIGHT CHITOSAN (6000 DA) WAS USED. TO DETERMINE THE OPTIMAL CONDITIONS FOR THE PREPARATION OF THE OLIGO-CHITOSAN NANOPARTICLES SOME PARAMETERS SUCH AS CONCENTRATION OF CHITOSAN AND PH WERE OPTIMIZED. THE OBTAINED NANOPARTICLES EXHIBITED A REGULAR DISTRIBUTION AND SPHERICAL SHAPE WITH THE SIZE IN THE RANGE OF 30-200 NM AS OBSERVED BY SCANNING ELECTRON MICROSCOPY (SEM) AND LASER LIGHT SCATTERING SYSTEM (LLS). THE RESULTS SHOWED THAT THE CONCENTRATION OF CS HAS THE PROMINENT EFFECT ON THE SIZE NANOPARTICLES.
