ULTIMATE STRENGTH ANALYSIS OF COMPOSITE PLATES UNDER IN-PLANE COMPRESSIVE LOAD USING COLLOCATION METHOD

Abstract

 IN THE CURRENT PAPER, A NEW ENERGY-BASED METHOD IS PRESENTED TO ANALYZE THE ULTIMATE STRENGTH OF SIMPLY SUPPORTED SQUARE COMPOSITE PLATES WITH INITIAL GEOMETRIC IMPERFECTIONS UNDER UNIAXIAL IN-PLANE COMPRESSION LOAD. THIS METHOD IS BASED ON THE CONCEPT OF THE FIRST ORDER SHEAR DEFORMATION THEORY AND THE ASSUMPTION OF SMALL DEFLECTION. DISCRETE ZONES OF DOMAIN WITH LEGENDRE-GAUSS-LOBATTO POINTS ARE USED TO DISCRETIZE THE DOMAIN AND TO COMPUTE THE TOTAL POTENTIAL ENERGY FUNCTIONAL. LEGENDRE POLYNOMIALS ARE USED TO ESTIMATE THE DISPLACEMENT FIELDS OF THE PROBLEM. IN THIS STUDY, HASHIN FAILURE CRITERION ARE CONSIDERED TO IDENTIFY THE MODES OF FAILURE. THE ACCURACY OF THIS METHOD IS ASCERTAINED USING COMPLETE AND REGION PLY FAILURE MODELS BY COMPARING IT WITH AVAILABLE RESULTS IN PREVIOUS STUDIES.
