Abstract

 Background and objectives Forming the identity of adolescents based on Islamic-Iranian values is an important mission of the education system. Assessing the national identity of adolescents is one of the main measures that should be taken to strengthen national identity. The aim is to compare the cognitive, behavioral, and emotional tendencies of the national identity of high school Students in terms of different demographic characteristics. Methodology In terms of its objectives this study is of an applied research type. The nature of the first stage is the type of content analysis and its method is library study. The nature of the second stage is correlational and has been done by survey method. The statistical population is the second-grade high school Students in the country in 2018-2019. The first sample size included 1915 individuals. The sampling method is first purposeful and available sampling and then random clustering. The research tool is a questionnaire taken from the research of Gharibzadeh and Hosseinpour (2019) and has been used with some changes. The face validity was confirmed and reliability was α = 0. 977. Multivariate, Tukey and independent t-test of variance were used using SPSS software. Findings There is a significant difference between Students' national identities in terms of gender, field and income; but for the city of study, this difference is not significant. There is a significant difference between the average national identities of Tabriz and Isfahan (3-0689), Mashhad and Isfahan (4-3069) and Tehran and Isfahan (3-3963); but in other cases the difference is not significant. There is a significant difference between the average of humanities and mathematics (5. 5754), humanities and experimental science (4. 6099), humanities and technical science (8. 7598) and experimental science and technical science (4. 1499); but in other cases it does not make sense. There is no significant difference in comparing average incomes. The average national identity is 3. 33 for male Students and 2. 97 for female Students, and this difference is significant. Results Gender, field of study, family income and city of study are factors influencing national identity that should be considered in planning.
