Abstract

Objective: The purpose of this study was to compare the acquisition of internal motor representation by observing a Point-light display between children with mild Intellectual disability and normal children based on the level of Task complexity. Method: Twenty children with mild Intellectual disability and 20 normal children performed the photo-arranging tests of a basketball free throw and a baseball pitch before and after observing a point-light pattern. The number of correctly arranged photos and the time took for performing the test were measured as dependent variables. Results: The results showed that children with mild Intellectual disability significantly improved their performance in basketball free throw from pretest to posttest, but no such improvement was observed in the baseball pitch. Moreover, normal children performed better than children with Intellectual disability in basketball free throw, but no difference was observed between the groups in baseball pitch. Conclusion: Findings indicated that children with mild Intellectual disability are able to acquire the internal representations of motor skills by observing a Point-light display. Also, normal children have a better performance than children with mild Intellectual disability in the process of observational motor learning.
