Abstract

Today, the increasing use of technology in offices has led to the growth of electric energy consumption. Obviously, excessive energy consumption can have negative effects on the environment. Effective management of energy consumption can be promoted by changing behavior of personnel with respect to energy use through training of personnel on optimal consumption patterns, information dissemination about energy saving measures and their positive effects, and motivating the personnel to pay more attention to energy conservation. Nowadays, one of the most important causes of increasing usage of electric energy in offices are computers and accessories such as monitors, scanners, and printers, that consume more electricity than lighting. If the users become familiar with effective use of electric energy and gain the inner belief of the advantages of economization, they will change their attitude toward the use of information technology devices. To achieve this, it is necessary to acknowledge and train the personnel in the field of energy consumption management and also the effective and correct usage of computers and their accessories. The aim of the present article is to assess the energy consumption of computers and their accessories energy consumption in Iran Gas Transferring Company under four occasions, and to define the scope for ENERGY ECONOMIZATION. Finally, some suggestions are presented for improving the energy saving behavior of personnel while using computers.
