Introduction: Leadership style can effect on nurses’ retention, job stress, job satisfaction and quality of work life. However, studies have shown different findings. This study aimed to determine the correlation of head nurses’ leadership style from nurses’ perspective and nurses’ job stress.Materials and Method: This method of this study was descriptive-correlational. In this study, 120 nurses working in hospitals affiliated with Alborz University of Medical Sciences by random sampling were selected. For data collection the “Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire”, and “Health and Safety Executive Questionnaire” were used. Later face and content validity and internal reliability were measured. Data were analyzed by SPSS/20.Findings: Dominant head nurses’ leadership style from 52% nurses’ perspective was transactional leadership style and job stress of 73% nurses was low. The results showed that nurses’ job stress in transformational and transactional leadership style from nurses’ perspective was low. Transformational leadership style with job stress (r=-0.35, P<0.001) and transactional leadership style with job stress had a significant negative correlation (r=-0.32, P<0.001).Conclusion: Concerning the negative relationship between transactional and transformational leadership style with job stress, appropriate leadership styles of nurse managers could result in reduction of stress. It is recommended that nurse managers use transformational and transactional leadership styles. Managers also need to reduce stress-causing situations.

Abstract:

Introduction: Improving patient safety is one of the main pillars of health services. On the other hand, the professional communication between the health team members and some personality characteristics of nurses, such as Assertiveness, can affect the quality of services provided to the patient. Therefore, this study aimed to determine how safety culture is associated with nurse-physician collaboration and Assertiveness from nurses' perspective. Material & Methods: A cross-sectional study was done in 2018, in this study300 nurses from 9 teaching hospitals located in South Khorasan province were selected through convenience sampling. Data were collected using the HSOPSC Hospital Safety Culture Questionnaire, Ushiro Nurse's Contribution, and Ratus Determinism. Finally, using SPSS-22 software, Pearson correlation and And analysis of the Amos route. Results: The results of the study showed that the mean and standard deviation of the safety culture score was 123. 40 ± 14. 26, the Assertiveness was equal to 1. 99 ± 14. 82 and the mean value collaboration was 81. 5 ± 17. 96. On the other hand, the results of Amos analysis showed that the cooperation of the physicians and nurse directly and Assertiveness indirectly affects the culture of safety. This is how Assertiveness influences the culture of safety through the collaboration of physicians and nurses. Conclusion: The findings suggest designing programs aimed at improving the relationship between physicians and nurses and enhancing the skill of nurses and thus enhancing patient safety.

Abstract:

Introduction: To safely prescribe medication in clinic, drug calculation ability is one of the basic skills that nurses must have. The major cause of medication errors is wrong dose calculation prescribed by nurses. This study aims to enhance the drug calculation ability of nurses of Hazrate Fatemeh Zahra hospital of Najaf Abad.Method: It was a quasi-experimental approach in which questionnaire was used to collect data. The population was nurses working in Hazrate Fatemeh Zahra hospital of Najaf Abad. Sampling method was convenience sampling. First, by using a researcher made questionnaire, pre-test was conducted from 43 people of the population. Then, intervention was done through workshops and after three weeks, the post-test was done. Reliability determined by using internal consistency and by split-half reliability and calculating Spearman-Brown reliability coefficient was 0.93. Data analysed with SPSS statistical software version 18 and statistical tests such as independent t-test, sign, Wilcoxon, Mann-Whitney, McNemar and Pearson's correlation coefficient was performed. Results: Out of the 43 nurses participating in the study, 21 nurses (48.8%) were at the intermediate level before training and after training all the nurses (n=43, 100%) were at the advanced level and answered at least 83% of the questions correctly. Before performing drug calculations course, the mean score of female nurses was 14.52 and the mean score of male nurses was 18.93 and the total mean score of nurses was 15.93. In the beginning, there was a significant difference between the scores of male and female nurses (P<0.05) and male nurses had higher total drug calculation score. After taking the course, the mean scores of female nurses increased to 23.03 and male nurses to 23.29 and the total mean score of nurses to 23.12, and a significant difference between the scores of the nurses in the sample and in both males and females in the drug calculation test before and after the course was observed (P<0.05).Conclusion: The results of this study indicate an increase in drug calculation abilities of nurses based on their score improvement in drug calculation in written test which was performed before and after intervention. According to the findings, the need for nurses in drug calculations was clear and by planned and ongoing training, these skills that are sensitive in preventing medication errors can be increased. Considering the importance of the issue and the reduced mastery of drug calculations that has been observed, it is suggested that these programs continue in different working periods of nurses so that they would be effective.
