Abstract:

Kurdish is the language of millions of people on earth. Kermanji, Sorani (Southern Kermanji), Orami-Gorani and Southern Kurdish are the main dialects of Kurdish with several sub-dialects and accents. Southern Kurdish is the dialect of Kermanshah and Ilam regions. In Kermanshah, there exist dialects such as Kalhori, Jafi, Orami, and etc. Ilami Kurdish (Fili Kurdish), is the common language of the inhabitants of Ilam province and parts of Iraq such as Mendali and Khaneqin. Kalhori, Khazli, Arkavazi, Malekshahi, etc. form the dialects of the inhabitants of Ilam province. In the present study, with the aim of discovering and identifying some of the grammatical rules of Ilami dialects, Kalhori dialect (Ivan city and parts of Shirvan and Chardavol) and Fili dialect were compared in terms of verb forms. The results showed that there are many similarities in the grammatical rules of these dialects due to kinship, and at the same time, there are some differences in suffixes when the verbs are conjugated in the second and third person singular forms.

Abstract:

Languages express the outside world's meanings in different ways. For example the features of person, number, tense and aspect or case and gender are expressed differently in different languages. Another category is the meaning of animation which is rarely manifested in many languages. But this important feature has been expressed in a number of Iranian dialects, which is the subject of this article.

Abstract:

Old Iranian (OIr.) hu-has developed in Iranian dialects in different form. This paper deals with development of OIr. hu- in  Iranian and West middle Iranian languages, the development of this cluster is described in New Northwestern and Southwestern Iranian dialects. OIr. hu-has changed in five form xw-, x-, h-, w- and f- in Iranian dialects. And these changes can be classified in two groups: 1. hu->xw->x->h-2. hu-> wh-> w->f-. Northwestern dialects show both changes groups, and show all of five developments, whereas Southwestern dialects show more similarity, and all of them have developed in first way. At the end of this paper Iranian dialects are classified according to this cluster change.

Abstract:

This article deals with the meaning and use of an onomatopoeic suffix in Khorasani dialects. The suffix/-ast/ when added to onomatopceic words, changes their meaning. While/sor-sor/shows continuity in the production of the/sor/sound, /sorrast/(sor+ ast) and further shows that this sound is produced abruptly without any continuity. Some examples of the way the affix is used in Old Persian texts as well as the Khorasani dialects are also provided.

Abstract:

The present article dedicates to studying the syllable-internal structure in three Iranian Balochi dialects (IBDs) namely Mirjaveh Sarhaddi, Sarawani and Lashari dialects. The data analysis will be based on the onset-rhyme theory (e. g., Kurylowicz, 1948, Fudge, 1969, Vergnaud & Halle, 1979, Selkirk, 1982). Moreover, the syllable weight in IBDs will be discussed in the framework of mora theory (Hayes, 1985, 1989). The data have been collected during the research fieldwork in Sistan and Baluchestan province, Iran. The research findings demonstrate that the Balochi language is an example of a nucleus-weight language in which heavy syllables depend on the number of elements in the nucleus. Thus, CV and CVC are light syllables and CVV(C) syllable is counted as heavy syllable. Besides, the context-dependent weight of CVC syllables occurs in IBDs stress pattern system. Studying the syllable contact (word-medial consonant clusters) in IBDs shows that Balochi is among languages that admit all types of heterosyllablic clusters.

Abstract:

Examination of languages and dialect forms, inherited from Iranian languages could help in understanding the Persian language itself as well as its grammatical elements and vocabulary. This study is aimed at examining the phonetic system along with discourse elements of Iron dialects. Among the most important grammatical properties of Iron dialect, the inflectional morphemes, linguistic elements or forms, and affixes can be considered. With respect to noun cases, this paper gives an account of inflectional morphemes and grammatical categories which represent ancient Iron dialects. The present study is an attempt to identify and understand adjective categories, different types of pronouns, verb patterns, and verb tenses.

Abstract:

This article deals with the phonological phenomenon of metathesis in Farsi. In order to carry out this research, about 2000 words from standard Farsi and its several dialects were studied, and 60 words were extracted, in which metathesis in two adjacent phonemes had occurred. After classifying these words according to their number and frequency of syllables, their syllabifications were checked according Sonority Sequence Principle (SSP) and Syllable Contact Law (SCL).Among the three major phonological approaches (the rule-based approach, the non-linear phonology, and the Optimality Theory), the third one turned out to be more efficient in the study of metathesis, and revealed that this phonological process may also be accounted for a synchronic phenomenon in Farsi. The results of this research show that in New Persian, the words entering this process should have three syllables at most and those with two syllables are the most frequent. It was also shown that all the words which undergo this process are loan words, and do not have Farsi roots.

Abstract:

In this paper, we have analysed the aspectual system of three dialects of Luri, a west Iranian language which is spoken in south western, and in some areas of western part of Iran. About the classification of Luri dialects different opinions have been provided by various scholars. In this research, we follow Anonby (2003)’ s classification, who has considered Luri as a language continuum consisting of three distinct languages: Luristani, Bakhtiyari and southern Luri, but we call them dialects of Luri. Despite their similarities to standard Persian, the Luri dialects share features that set them apart as a group from the standard language (McKinon, 2011). In this research, we have looked at the verbal construction in Luri and its aspectual system. Aspects are different ways of viewing the internal temporal constituency of a situation' (Comrie, 1976: 4). Hewson & Bubenik (1997: 14) distinguish analytic and synthetic aspects in the Indo-European languages. In analytic aspect, there is an auxiliary which carries the tense marker, to which the lexical verb is dependant. On the other hand, in synthetic aspect, there is only a single word which may be marked for both tense and aspect. In these three West Iranian dialects, there are synthetic aspects as well as some analytic aspects, like their sister language Persian. The idea of the appearance of some periphrastic aspects and serial verb constructions to show the progressive aspect in some dialects of Luri can be considered as the impact of language contact, in which these dialects are getting influenced by Persian, the standard language of the country. Aspectual system in all of these three dialects is based on the ternary division between Perfective, Imperfective and Perfect aspect, like other Indo-European languages (see Hewson & Bubenik, 1997) It should be mentioned that we distinguish grammatical and lexical aspect and we are just looking at the system in grammatical aspect of Luri in this research.

Abstract:

Passive verb has taken different forms during the history of Persian Language. The following structures are the essential forms of the passive verb since the early times: root/verb stem + passivizing suffix, past participle/infinitive + auxiliary verb, and third person plural of agentless transitive verbs. In contemporary Iranian languages and dialects each of the above-mentioned forms continues to live independently, but sometimes all forms accompany one another. This article by focusing on a number of Iranian languages and dialects, studies the ways of making passive verbs, and then, based on the existing sources, examines the evolution process, ways, and possibilities of producing passive structures in modern Iranian dialects.
