Abstract:

This paper aims to review the impact of self-alienation on the faculties’ scientific prestige at the Yazd University. The research reported here has been done based on the Seeman's theory on the dimensions of social alienation. Alienation is defined in terms of Melvin Seeman's (1959) five basic variants of alienation: powerlessness, meaninglessness, normlessness, social isolation, and self-estrangement. Using a descriptive research model, data were collected by a questionnaire. 135 faculties were selected via systematic sampling. The findings show that although there was no meaningful relation between variables of meaninglessness, and professional characteristics with scientific prestige, but a positive correlation has been observed between powerlessness, isolation, formlessness, social alienation with scientific prestige. Additionally a negative correlation has been confirmed between alienation and life satisfaction with scientific prestige. Finally results of multiple regression showed that two variables of social status and social alienation are explained faculties’ scientific Prestige respectively.

Abstract:

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between ethnic identity and cultural congruity and self-alienation in university student. The research method of this study was correlation. In this research 400 female and male students from Azad university of Kermanshah were selected by stratified sampling and complete the ethnic identity, cultural congruity and alienation scales. Results of Pierson correlation indicate that there is a negative correlation between ethnic identity and its dimensions with alienation. Also results show that there is a negative correlation between cultural congruity and normlessness and seclusion; but, there is no meaningful correlation between cultural congruity and alienation (p<0.05). According to regression correlation, ethnic identity has been the highest variable for predicting the alienation in university students. The Results of t-test indicated that the mean of inability and seclusion in male students was higher than female (p<0.05); but there is no meaningful difference between male and female students in alienation and normlessness.

Abstract:

One of the variables that can be effective in reducing social problems, including alienation, is social capital. Because each of its components, such as trust, participation and group bounds, can lead to greater integration and, consequently, social order. Hence, due to the importance of the subject, the sociological explanation of the impact of social capital on forms of alienation has been discussed. The research method was survey and data collection tecknique was a questionnaire. The statistical population includes the adult residents of Tehran. Of this population, 384 persons have been selected. The alienation forms were adapted form seaman’ s theory of alienation dimensions, namely, powerlessness, normlessness, meaninglessness, isolation and estrangement. In this study alienation forms through the theory of Seeman have been investigated in five dimensions: feeling of powerlessness, feeling of meaninglessness, feeling of normlessness, feeling of social isolation, and feeling of estrangement. Social capital was also studied in three dimensions of social trust, social participation and group bounds. The results of the research showed that among the components of social capital, the average of social trust was lower than other components. There was a significant and reverse correlation between social capital and all forms of alienation. And the greatest correlation between social capital and social isolation was shown. Also, there was a significant relationship between the contextual variables and economic activity, ethnicity and residential area and alienation forms.

Abstract:

Social apathy is defined as “ not participating in social issues, disappointment, be unconcern to social issues, lack of civic involvement as a citizen, and inattentiveness to social, political, and cultural issues. This study was conducted using survey research and questionnaire along with historical and qualitative studies. The research statistical population includes two urban areas (Ghezel Ghaleh Quarter-district 6 of Tehran) and a rural area (Nezam Abad village, Islam Shahr). The findings of this study shows that there is a significant correlation between social apathy and social trust, social satisfaction, social normlessness, the level of fatalism, and feeling of injustice, both in urban and rural areas. This means that an increase or decrease in these variables leads to change in the social apathy. Meanwhile, the effect of distrust variables in urban society and social dissatisfaction in rural society was more obvious.

Abstract:

The main purpose of this research was to study the relationship between psychological healthy work place' components (opportunity for control, opportunity for skill use, externally generated goals, environmental variety, environmental clarity, availability of money, physical security, opportunity for interpersonal contact, valued social position) and job alienation’ dimensions (cultural estrangement, powerlessness, normlessness, estrangement from work, social isolation, meaninglessness). Research method was descriptive correlational and statistical population included all of administrative staff of the one public university in Tehran, out of them 151 subjects, were selected via stratified convenience sampling. In this research a set of questionnaires consisting of psychological healthy workplace which developed by Mehdad et al (2011) and job alienation questionnaire (Boeree, 2001) were used. Data were analyzed using of canonical correlation analysis and results showed that there are high canonical correlation (0.975) between psychological healthy work place' components and job alienation’ dimensions. Pair of canonical variables showed that (except meaninglessness) all dimensions of job alienation, except meaninglessness, can be explained by environmental clarity. Moreover, there exist the strongest relationship between environmental clarity, from independent variables (with 0.995 standard canonical correlation) and normlessness, from dependent variables (with -0.997 standard canonical correlation). In conclusion, employees’ job alienation decreases with increasing psychological healthy work place components and gradually dissolves.

Abstract:

Background :Traffic accidents remain a critical global public health issue, resulting in numerous fatalities and injuries annually. Objectives :This study aims to explore the application of machine learning (ML) in analyzing traffic accident data obtained from self-report questionnaires to identify factors influencing the incidence and severity of accidents. Methods :The study design is cross-sectional. In this study, approximately 660 participants completed the questionnaire, of which 43 were incomplete or invalid and were excluded. The remaining 617 participants answered all questions in full. Participants were selected using a convenience sampling method from five districts in Shiraz to ensure diversity, including outreach to taxi and heavy vehicle terminals. Data were collected through face-to-face questionnaires administered by trained researchers, and all responses were self-reported. The dataset collected from 617 participants includes information on demographics, vehicle and road features, personality traits, driving habits, and risky driving behavior. The questionnaire incorporated multiple validated instruments capturing driving behavior, demographics (such as age, gender, marital status, education, income), and habits (e.g., driving duration, cellphone use, fatigue, and substance use). Various ML algorithms, such as random forest and SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) analysis, were employed to identify factors influencing both the occurrence and severity of accidents. Furthermore, the C5.0 algorithm was utilized to extract specific patterns, while prediction tasks were addressed using a combination of random forest, support vector machine (SVM), logistic regression, and Naive Bayes algorithms. Results :The random forest algorithm highlighted that factors such as income, driving time, working time, age, duration of non-stop driving, type of law enforcement, openness, normlessness, sensation seeking, and vehicle safety significantly influence the occurrence of accidents. For accident severity, important predictors included driving time, non-stop driving, working time, age, aggressive violations, income, road quality, type of law enforcement, driving while tired, vehicle safety, foreign car status, and vehicle comfort. Additionally, the C5.0 algorithm revealed specific patterns—such as high normlessness and extended driving hours—increasing the likelihood of accidents, while factors like low normlessness and balanced income served as protective elements. Conclusions :The findings highlight the impact of lifestyle and work-related factors, as well as certain personality traits of drivers, on the incidence and severity of accidents. While the results of the study should not be taken verbatim due to the reliance on self-reported data, the study supports the application of ML in the analysis of accident data. It also advocates for the use of strategies including social and economic interventions, psychological assessments, enhanced road safety education, and customized regulatory measures based on individual risk assessments to effectively prevent traffic accidents.

Abstract:

Concerning the renaissance educations we see humanism and secularism emphasizing on rationality in political and social arena which carry on structural qualitative and quantitative changes. Interest oriented outlook, relative view to religion and spirituality in the world, increasing racial and ethnical conflicts, colonization and exploitation of human and natural resources, and diminishing independence and will of human resulted by instrumental rationality are products of such educations, i.e., cultural globalization. The question in this research rests on which of the liberal democracy and razavi epistemologies are able to affect more on current material and ideological world? The findings in this descriptive –analytical and discourse analytic research show that psychic difficulties, weakening family bases, and social and political normlessness remain the significant consequences of cultural globalization discourse and its central signifier, i.e., humanism. Marxism and neo Marxism could not also solve these problems. Razavi epistemologies as a comprehensive culture with its central signifiers such as friendship, kindness, morality, justiceand freedom can find good solutions for the problems.

Abstract:

The empirical studies undertaken on academic culture in Iran suggest an inefficient academic acculturation and students alienation from the structure and process of a desired academic culture. A sense of powerlessness, normlessness, anomie, social isolation and in general strangement from the self, educational processes, unverrsity camp, academic staff members and also from other students is increasingly growing in the minds and feelings of a considerable number of higher education students in humanities and social sciences. Drawing on a mixed methodology, the following paper aims to reconstruct the phenomenology of academic and educational alienation based on students personal lived experience and narrativity. Apart from accounting for internal and external social factors affecting this experience, we have proposed a typology of the types of alienation experienced by different groups of students and the strategies they have adopted to counter it. Results suggest that alienation is directly affected by culture politics and involves different social, psychological, and economic consequences in their lives.
