The purpose of this article was to study scientific productivity of academic members of the Research Institute of Petroleum Industry (RIPI), during 1989-2003, using scientometric indicators. For this study data gathering was based on a questionnaire and data analysis was performed by descriptive and inferential statistics methods using SPSS.Results showed that the academic members of the Exploration and Production Department (RIPI), were the most populated during the studied period. The total numbers of scientific publications were 3192, which can be classified as 1665 (52.2%) articles, 1412 (44.2%) research projects, 103 (3.2%) theses, and 12 books. The quantity of scientific productivity was increased during years 1989 to 1998 and after this period it showed a constant trend, which was lower than the year 1998. Most of subject matter tendencies of scientific productivity were towards petrochemical, chemical, and reservoir engineering. Departments of Exploration and Production, Petrochemical and Chemical Engineering and Oil Refinery had the highest contribution in scientific productivity in this study.
