To assess the competence of seafarers, a research has been done. Assessment is an important function in training courses. This function could be considered in three areas: 1) training seafarers, 2) improving the professional knowledge, and 3) generating knowledge and facilitating training functions in maritime industry. Therefore, an assessment program is expected to react to the requirements of maritime society in regard to training courses, training programming, and decision makers in training processes. This reaction plays an important role in the sustainable development and content of maritime training. Also, it can affect the maritime workplace by improving the quality of operations. In the other hand, seafaring is an international profession and it is necessary for maritime training centers and management systems to assess their function in the workplace to act properly. Also, it is necessary to completely be aware of the standpoints of the other societies which are in contact with maritime society. This research is a descriptive study and its results include at least 12 processes and 15 indexes -from the beneficiaries, master seafarers, training centers and self-assessment standpoint- for the seafarers who work on under 500 TEUs, 500 to 3000 TEUs, and up to 3000 TEUs vessels. Furthermore, this study compares the function of Iranian and Non-Iranian seafarers.
