Introduction: Implementation of health business intelligence (HBI) systems has become essential in hospitals and health centers in developing countries. As public and private health centers have different approaches to modern information systems, this study has investigated two sets of public and private health centers to see whether they are ready to set up these systems. Methods: The population included all managers, employees, experts and computer and IT technicians of health centers and hospitals in two cities of Shiraz and Yasuj. Data was collected via the administration of the questionnaire, “Organization’s Readiness in Terms of Using Health Business Intelligence Systems”, to 307 participants. Cronbach’s Alpha and factor analysis was used to investigating reliability and validity. Cronbach’s alpha values were in range 0.70 to 0.88. In order to investigate the significant difference between public and private health centers in terms of their total score regarding their readiness in using HBI, the independent T-test was applied. In addition, the MANOVA test was used to evaluate the factors related to the use of HBI. SPSS 18 was used to analyzing the Data. Results: Results showed a significant difference between public and private health centers in terms of the total score of their readiness to use HBI (P<0.04). Moreover, there is a significant difference between these centers in terms of senior IT management (P<0.05), organization (P<0.003) and information technology services (P<0.009). However, no significant difference was found between public and private health centers in terms of information subsystems. Conclusion: Regarding the important role of new information systems, it is necessary for health centers of our country, especially the public ones, to plan for the provision of new information systems so that hospital information management would not face any challenge in near future.

Abstract:

Introduction: Limited mobility, high costs of transportation and specialized care, make it very difficult for the elderly, especially those living in nursing homes, to get specialized care services, particularly in the field of skin diseases. Therefore, Teledermatology can be considered as a solution to overcome these barriers and improve access to specialized skin care services. The study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy and treatment planning in teledermatology compared to in person examination. Methods: The population of this quasi-experimental study, consisted of 280 elderly people living in Kahrizak Charity Foundation in Tehran. The exclusion criteria included: emergency skin conditions and genital skin lesions. All participants should have signed a consent form. No sampling was done since there were few qualified individuals (n = 46), finally, 37 patients participated in the study. In order to calculate the accuracy of diagnosis and treatment planning, simple statistical methods were used and data were analyzed by SPSS version 20.Results: The participants with skin diseases, consisted of 37 elderly patients (aged 62 to 89), 22 of whom were men. The accuracy of diagnosis and treatment planning for patients provided by teledermatology compared to those of in-person examination were, 86% and 84%, respectively. Conclusion: The elderly can benefit from teledermatology in nursing homes; therefore, they can have better access to specialized services and avoid unnecessary trips to dermatology clinics.
