Abstract:

Background: Despite the existence of a large volume of literature and research on psychological well-being (PWB) of the general population, very few studies have focused on post traumatic stress disorder (P.T.S.D) veterans' family. Purpose: The aim of the present research was to compare the effectiveness of social skills group training and stress Inoculation Training (SIT) on psychological well-being of post traumatic stress disorder veterans' son. Method & materials: In order to administer this study, 45 veterans' son were selected randomly from 14-18 years high school children population of Isfahan city via random cluster sampling method and assigned randomly to two experimental and one control group (each group consist of 15 adolescence). The design of the study was comparative experimental and control groups in pretest , post test and after 4 month follow up. The intervention were social skills group training and stress Inoculation Training. The instruments were psychological well-being of Borumand and Molavi, Ryff's psychological well-being and demographical information questionnaires. data was analyzed by Multivariate Covariance analysis of variance. Results & conclusion: Findings indicate that social skills group training stress Inoculation Training can improve psychological well-being of son's veterans with post traumatic stress disorder (P.T.S.D). Stress Inoculation Training was more effective and efficient than social skills group training.

Abstract:

Background: The resiliency of positive adaptation in response to adverse conditions and attachment styles and tend to approach people to establish a kind of close relationship with certain people and having a sense of security is allocated a special place in the area of family and mental health. Relationship between attachment styles and resiliency in the wives of veterans suffered the pressures are particularly important Purpose: Considering the existence of pressures and stresses in families of veterans, the purpose of this study to determine the relationship between resiliency and attachment styles of veterans wives. Materials and Methods: The method of research had been a correlation. Research sample was 60 Shiraz veterans spouses that have been selected systematic random manner. Data are collected from questionnaires resiliency CD-RIS, RAAS adult attachment styles and demographic characteristics were used. Results: for analyzing the Data it was used of correlation coefficients. Analysis revealed that there is a positive and significant relationship between secure attachment and the amount of resiliency (P<0.0001). There is a significant negative correlation between insecure attachment avoidance and the rate of resiliency (P<0.001) there is no significant relationship between anxiety and insecure attachment level resiliency (P<0.28). Conclusion: Based on the findings of this research it can be concluded that secure attachment is predictor the amount of resiliency and veterans spouses and who have this style have the more rates of resiliency. Spouses who have insecure avoidant attachment style have less amount of resiliency and insecure attachment styles anxiety have no effect on the amount of resiliency.

Background and Purpose: There are two main goals in amputated persons: Enabling the person to walk, returning them into social environment. Adjusting to life with a prosthesis and other mobility technologies is a complex rehabilitation process. Unfortunately there is no information about individual functional level and health status for persons with limb loss to identify importance for rehabilitation programs. Purpose: consideration of individual functional level and health status in war related above knee amputees.Material and methods: For this study, 54 Iranian above knee amputees were examined according to 5-level functional classification system and asked to report their health status. Results: Pain or countralateral limb arthritis was reported in 77.77%, back pain in 74.07%, mental disorders in 55.55% of patients. 7.41% of patients were in level 1, 25.92%of patients were in level 2, 57.41% of patients were in level 3 and 9.26% were in level 4. Conclusion: according to this study, the most prevalent disorders were pain or countralateral limb arthritis, back pain and mental disorders. Also more than half of the amputees were in functional level 3 that the person has the ability or potential for ambulation with variable cadence.

Objective: the main objective is to determine the influence of treatment by Milwaukee and Thoracolumbosacral orthoses on self-image and satisfaction with management of adolescents idiopathic scoliosis.Materials and methods: this cross-sectional study investigated the self-image and satisfaction with management of adolescents with idiopathic scoliosis that treated with Milwaukee and Thoracolumbosacral orthoses by the use of the Scoliosis Research Society-22 questionnaire that specifically designed for the assessment of quality of life in spinal deformity patients. In this study 63 subjects divided in two groups, a Milwaukee group of 31 patients and compares the results with an Thoracolumbosacral group of 32 patients matched by age and curve magnitude.Result: in this study, there were no statistically significant differences in self-image score between two groups (p=0.7), but Milwaukee brace wearing did higher negative effect the self image. Moreover, the Milwaukee group patients had score of satisfaction better than TLSO patients group, but there was no statistically significant difference in two groups (p=0.8).Conclusion: overall, brace wearing did decrease the quality of life of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis in two groups of our study population and this effects are higher in males. More attention will need to be given to those with severe curves, to help improve patients' understanding of their treatment and hence their compliance and satisfaction. Our study shown that after the initial shock of brace wearing, the patients were able to adjust well about their condition.

Abstract:

Introduction: The airway epithelium as a physiological barrier defend airway against environmental hazards in lung disease such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). This defense seems to be regulated via alteration of inflammatory genes and Reactive oxygen species (ROS) have an important role in expression of inflammatory proteins. ROS promote the up regulation of cytokines and inflammatory proteins via activation of transcription factors such as Activated Protein 1 (AP-1). Sulfur Mustard (SM) is one of the hazardous agents which cause increase of ROS. In this study we will highlight the role of AP-1 in activation of cytokines and inflammatory molecules following the increase of ROS after exposure to SM in airway wall and for this purpose we chose C-fos which is the most common monodimer of AP-1. Materials and Methods: Ten control individuals and twenty SM exposed patients were considered. RT-PCR and Real-time PCR measured the quantity of C-fos mRNA in control and SM exposed specimens. Results: Although this research showed 2.89 fold changes in expression levels of C-fos in SM exposed patients in compare to normal group, our result was not statistically remarkable (P>0.05). Discussion: Our evidence suggested that the induction of C-fos is may be because of increase of ROS after exposure to SM and having no statistically remarkable result is might refer to depletion of antioxidants.

Abstract:

Background and purpose: Following limb loss, offering rehabilitation, prosthesis, assistive devices and training to restore function for amputee are really important. Chronic pain can cause patient's psychological and physical limitations. Purpose: consideration the chronic pain and prosthetic satisfaction of war related amputees. Method and Materials: For this study, 38 Iranian above knee amputees were asked to answer the Persian version of prosthesis Evaluation Questionnaire (PEQ) and repot satisfaction of their current prosthesis. Results: Phantom sensation was reported in 78.95%, phantom pain in 60.53%, residual limb pain in 44.74%, lateral limb pain in 76.32% and back pain in 60.53% of patients with lower limb amputation18.38% of patients were really satisfied of their current prosthesis. Conclusion: According to this study, the most prevalent outcomes in war related amputees were phantom sensation, countralateral limb pain, phantom pain, back pain and residual limb pain. More than half of the patients were satisfied of their current prosthesis more than moderate.
