Abstract:

This study was designed to investigate the effect of cysteamine and vitamin E on post thaw buffalo bull's sperm quality. For this purpose, 20 ejaculates from four buffalo bulls possessing more than 70% visual sperm motility were diluted at 37oC in BioXcell® extender. The diluted semen was cooled to 4oC within 2 hours, equilibrated at 4oC following the addition of (0.75, 1.5, 2 and 5 mM) of vitamin E and (7.5, 12.5, 15 and 20 mM) cysteamine per 90 ml, filled in 0.5 ml French straws and were subjected to cooling condition before being plunged into liquid nitrogen. Semen was thawed at 37oC for 40 seconds after 72 hours of storage inside liquid nitrogen .Post-thaw sperm motility and some qualitative parameters of each frozen semen sample were assessed by using computer assisted semen analyzer (CASA). In general, the results showed that the addition of 1.5 mM vitamin E and 20 mM cysteamine in the commercial diluents BioXcell extender for freezing buffalo semen increased the motility of spermatozoa and some qualitative parameters to post-thawed buffalo sperm.

Abstract:

The purpose of this study was count the white blood cells following injection of technetium-99m in the cat. Radioactive materials can be used in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Technetium is used in most labeling and nuclear medicine diagnostic studies because of its favorable conditions in the body. In this study, injection of technetium-99m was used to evaluate the possible changes in the number of white blood cells because these cells are used in labeling and tracing of radioactive materials in the body and their alterations are important in many operations. In the present study, technetium was milked from Molybdenum to technetium generator and it was rapidly injected in 1.5 mCi into six cats through the femoral vein. A group of four other cats were used as controls after injection of saline. At 0, 30, 60 minutes, 24 and 48 hours after injection, blood samples were collected from all cats and the number of white blood cells were counted. This study did not show any significant changes in the amount of white blood cells in the two groups. Thus, the results of this study outlines the advantage of using technetium-99m as a radio-drug in treatment and diagnostic procedures.

Abstract:

Drug therapy of cancer which is carried out by natural, synthetic or biological substances is associated with complications. Cisplatin as an anticancer drug, is hepatotoxic at high doses. Oxidative stress has been proven to be involved in cisplatin-induced toxicity. Because of antioxidant potential of resveratrol, this study was conducted to assess the protective effects of resveratrol, on cisplatin-induced hepatotoxicity in the rat. Forty male Wistar rats were randomly divided into four equal groups. Group 1 was used as control. For induction of hepatic injury in groups 2-4, cisplatin (3 mg/kg) was injected once every five days intraperitoneally. Groups 3 and 4 received silymarin (100 mg/kg) and resveratrol (20 mg/kg) respectively, daily for 4 weeks via intraperitoneal route. At the end of experiment, serum levels of aspartate and alanine transaminases, lactate dehydogenase and total bilirubin, albumin and total proteins were assessed. Malondialdehyde, reduced glutathione and activities of superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidase and glutathione reductase were assayed in liver homogenates. Finally, the biochemical findings were matched with histopathological verification. In group 4, resveratrol significantly (p<0.001) decreased the elevated levels of serum biomarkers of hepatic injury and total bilirubin, and significantly (p<0.001) increased the reduced levels of serum albumin and total proteins. In this group, resveratrol significantly (p<0.001) decreased the lipid peroxidation and elevated the decreased values of hepatic antioxidants. Histopathologically, the changes were in agreement with biochemical findings. The results obtained showed resveratrol, because of its anti-oxidant potential, exerts a protective effect against cisplatin induced hepatotoxicity in rats.

Abstract:

Antibiotics use to increase the immune and wound healing in many animals. But due to the residual effects of a drug, Antibiotics and used to increase the immune response and propolis wound healing is aquadic animals. But due to their residual, researchers are looking to replace them with natural materials. One of these natural materials that has many health benefits is bee propolis. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of different concentrations of propolis on wound healing and immune system response in common carp (Cyprinus carpio). Propolis extracts were prepared from Kashan Barij essence with different concentrations of 0, 2, 5 and 10% with carrier substances (to dissolve the propolis in water), and were evaluated on wound healing and immune response and survival of common carp on a 21 -day cycle of short baths once a day. The results showed that, compared with the control group (0%), the use of bee propolis in concentration of 2% has statistically significant difference on wound healing and immune system response in common carp. The use of higher concentrations of propolis healed wound, but increased the number of blood cells (red blood cells, neutrophils, and eosinophils) and increased mortality of fish, so it is better to use lower concentrations of propolis in fish. The use bee propolis as additive in water is effective in low concentrations and stimulates the immune system.

Abstract:

The objective of this study was to determine the effects of different levels of prebiotic (A-MAX) which includes cell wall composition of Saccharomyces cervisiae yeast on digestibility and blood parameters in West Azarbaijan kids. Twenty kids with an average weight of 11.1±1.8 kg and about five to six months of age. Were used in a randomized complete block design with 4 treatments (5 kids per treatment). Treatments included 1) no prebiotic (control), 2) 2gram, 3) 4gram and 4) 6 gram prebiotic /day per animal, which were fed with a basal diet. Apparent digestibility of dry matter, organic matter, crude protein, ADF, NDF were not affected by treatments. Moreover blood metabolites including glucose, albumin, total protein, BHBA and BUN were not significantly different between groups. The results indicate that the addition of prebiotic (A-MAX) to the diet of kids had no significant effect on digestibility and blood biochemical parameters.

Abstract:

Renal ischemia causes oxidative stress which leads to severe and prolonged inflammatory responses following reperfusion. Re-perfusion injury in the kidney is a causal factor of acute renal failure which has been studied in different animals and clinical models. Metformin is an oral medication used alone or with other medications to treat type 2 diabetes. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of metformin following the induction of ischemia-reperfusion in the rat kidney. In this study, 30 adult male Wistar rats weighing 200-250g were used which were divided randomly into three groups of 10 which include the sham group; this group had not received any medication and after only a week, the abdominal cavity was opened then left renal nephrectomy was performed and the abdominal cavity reclosed. The control group (IR): this group had not received any medication until induction of ischemia-reperfusion and after a week the abdominal cavity was opened and following ischemia- reperfusion, left kidney nephrectomy was performed. I/R+MET group: this group was gavaged with a dose of metformin (100 mg/kg) each day for a week at a same time and after a week the abdominal cavity was opened and then ischemia-reperfusion was induced and left kidney nephrectomy performed. In all groups except sham, both the renal pedicles were closed and released after 45 minutes for induction of ischemia-reperfusion. After 4 and 8 hours, left kidney nephrectomy was performed. At day zero (before drug administration) and after the end of ischemia-reperfusion and during renal nephrectomy, blood samples were collected and serum creatinine and BUN levels were examined. The data obtained analyzed by ANOVA on significant levels (p<0.05). Histopathological results of I/R+MET group showed degeneration and cell swelling in some tubules at low levels and mild pyknosis and the nucleus and cytoplasm of most tubules were normal. The serological results obtained indicated a slight and insignificant decrease in BUN and serum creatinine in I/R+MET group compared with the I/R group. This study showed that metformin relatively protects the kidney from ischemia-reperfusion injury.

Abstract:

This study was conducted to evaluate the presence of anti zona pellucida antibodies in the serum of repeat breeder Holstein cows in Third station Dairy Cattle Husbandry Agro Industry in Moghan. The study was conducted on 168 non-pregnant cows with a history of Repeat breeder. Animals were selected in two age groups, more than three times calving or less. Ten ml of blood were obtained from Animals from the jugular vein and serum was separated. The presence of anti-ZP antibodies in animal sera were tested by commercial test kits for ELISA (Bioserve Diagnostic, Zona pellucida antibody ELISA, BS-20-20, Germany). From a total of 168 tested animals, 13 animals tested positive (7.74%) and 155 animals were negative (92.26%). Five of 109 cattle with less than three calving were positive and 8 of 59 animals with more than three calving were positive. The results showed highly significant differences between the two groups (Z=2.07) and this means that increasing age has a significant effect on the rate of appearance of anti zona pellucida antibodies in the serum of these animals.

Abstract:

To investigate and identify the helminthes parasites in the digestive tract of the catfish in Aras Dam in the spring of 2011, 50 catfish were caught measuring 0.5 to 4.5 kg and 50 to 120 cm from this dam. Their Gastrointestinal tracts were then removed and placed in plastic containers containing 10% formalin and transferred to Fisheries Laboratory, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Islamic Azad University of Tabriz. The helminthes parasites were isolated, stained and identified and their species were determined. During this survey of 50 catfish caught from Aras Dam, 145 Proteocephalus osculatus and 88 Siluritaenia silurus parasites was isolated and identified. The infection rate of these two parasites of catfish was 100%. This is the first report of these two parasites of catfish from Aras Dam.
