Abstract:

Background & Aims: Smoking as a health risk behavior endangers not only the individual but also community health and is one of the preventable causes of death. This risk behavior is growing among educated young people. This study was aimed to investigate effective factors leading to smoking based on BASNEF Model in male students in Tehran Medical Sciences University in 2009.Materials & Methods: This descriptive analytical study was performed on 200 male students that were selected by snowball sampling method. The data were collected using a questionnaires based on BASNEF Model. The data were analyzed by Chi-square tests, and Pearson correlation coefficient. Results: The survey results showed that the most frequent causes of smoking were easy access to cigarettes (80%) and peers smoking (82%). Considering the attitude of the samples 33.5% had a positive, 19.5% neutral and 47% had a negative attitude toward smoking. There was a significant association between positive attitude to smoking and students’ years of study or parental education. There also was a significant relationship between age at onset of smoking with either parents or peers smoking. There was a relationship between low price cigarettes and the number of cigarettes smoked per day. The average number of cigarettes smoked per day and students age and cigar costs per month showed a positive correlation. Conclusion: The importance of attitudes, subjective norms, and factors affecting smoking are highlighted in the study and health officials must urge to pursue structural interventions to prevent them.

Abstract:

Background & Aims: Antenatal maternal anxiety is common during pregnancy and may have side effects on mother and neonate. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between maternal anxiety and neonatal outcomes in nulliparous women.Materials & Methods: In this analytical prospective study 156 pregnant women were studied in Qom health care centers. Anxiety was assessed using a self-administered Spielberger's state-trait anxiety questionnaire (STAI) at 28th and 38th weeks of pregnancy. Then time of delivery, height and head circumference of neonates, fetal growth restriction, respiratory distress, low birth weight and Apgar score of neonates were obtained from the women’s clinical records. The data were analyzed using logistic regression test, Chi-square, and Fisher exact. Results: The findings indicate that there is no significant relationship between the rate of fetal growth restriction, preterm labor and low Apgar score at the 28th and 38th weeks of pregnancy in anxious and non anxious women (P>0.05).Conclusion: The results of this study revealed that anxiety does not directly affect the health of a baby. Finally, anxiety during pregnancy is an independent risk factor that may affect pregnancy outcomes.

Abstract:

Background & Aims: Streptokinase is one of the most useful drugs in acute myocardial infarction. Researches show that timely given injection of streptokinase decreases total mortality. Allergic reaction and bleeding are possible side effects. This research was aimed to determine the adverse reactions of streptokinase in patients with or without hydrocortisone-injection in Ramsar and Tonekabon hospitals in 2007-2008.Materials & Methods: In this quasi-experimental study simple random sampling method was used in CCU wards in Ramsar's Imam Sajjad and Tonkabone Shahid Rajaei hospitals. The patients were divided in two groups (those using and not using hydrocortisone). The data were collected with a demographic questionnaire and a check list. Descriptive- analytical statistics (chi-square) were used and the data were analyzed by SPSS software and. Results: The findings showed in groups using hydrocortisone, fever and chill was %3.33, fever 3.33%, chill 1.67%, vomiting, nausea, chill 1.67%, and PVC 53.3%. In the group not using hydrocortisone chill was 5%, fever 5%, and PVC 50%. There was no significant association between side effects with dependent variable. Conclusion: There was no significant difference in side effects between the group using the hydrocortisone and the other group. Considering serious side effects that may be happen after streptokinase injection, it is necessary to have regular check-ups.
