This research surveys the acquisition of journals in central library of Razi University of Kermanshah considering how much these journals have been utilized by faculty members of the university in order to publish papers indexed in ISI and Scopus by making use of citation analysis for the references of the papers. The research population includes 1728 papers and 46448 references published by the faculties of the University in ISI and Scopus and the journal collection in its central library. The bibliometric method is applied to do the study. Needed data were extracted from ISI and SCOPUS during 1990 to 2007. The non-parametric binominal test indicates that 43% of information needs of the faculty members of the university have been provided by the journals available within acquisitions of the university central library; hence 50% of journal acquisitions in the central library have found to be matched with the information needs of faculty members.

This research has been done in order to study how engineering and technical post-graduate students living in the campus of University of Tehran use scientific databases available on the website of the University. Using descriptive method, 355 questionnaires were distributed among students and totally, 255 ones were returned. To analyze collected data softwares Excel and SPSS were utilized. Based on research findings, the main aim of students to use mentioned databases is writing thesis and scientific articles; the most used databases are Elsevier (80 percent) and Springer (53 percent), respectively; they are not satisfied with the speed of the Internet; the most important problem of students for using Internet is that they are not familiar enough with strategies of searching and they expressed themselves that they haven't enough ability to use it (» 28 percent), and so forth. It was also found that students have problems for using scientific information databases including low speed of Internet for searching, lack of enough information, lack of ability to answer all requests, and so on.

The purpose of the present study is to investigate the library anxiety among the students of Rehabilitation School of Iran University of Medical Sciences. The research method is survey and 211 students have participated in the study. The Bostick’s library anxiety scale in the form of a researcher-made 39-item questionnaire was used as the instrument of data collection. The findings revealed that the library anxiety of the students is at average level. The library anxiety also was at average level in terms of barriers with staff, affective barriers, library knowledge, comfort with the library and mechanical barriers, but the anxiety in terms of mechanical barriers was at higher level than the other indicators. The findings of the study showed no significant difference in the library anxiety based on the educational level. Only in the indicators of the mechanical barriers, the library anxiety of males was higher than females. The average level of library anxiety among the students is an important finding which needs the librarians' effort for its reduction.

The present research aims at evaluating the amount of desirability of pictures of story books for children aging 7-12, published by the Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults (IIDCYA) during 2001-2009. The method of research in first section is library method and in second section is content analysis. The society of research includes all story books (68 titles) of children the range of 7-12 which has been published by IIDCYA. The collected data have been analyzed by both descriptive and inferential statistics. On the basis of findings, it was realized that the amount of desirability is more than average in the most of pictures of story. Finally, some recommendations for improving the pictures, and some suggestions for further research were offered.

This research attempts to do an investigation into the effect of application of study glove as useful tool for dealing with printed materials. This research deals with the available materials of libraries’ collection from protection and preservation perspective, especially during the study and browsing which in turn should be considered properly. Also, it considers the typology of biological factors and other factors which have caused the humidity, tearing and complete damages of sources. This research has referred the most important hazards which threat the librarians’ health such as breathing, digestive diseases and skin allergy and etc. Research results have shown that 98% of librarians have confirmed that the most printed materials which they have worked with them are with dust and biological materials. More than 95% of staffs in their work environment are worried about their health and hygiene. The most libraries’ staffs (i.e. 93% of them) have confirmed nonexistence of suitable tools which are not required to wet their finger. More than 79% of librarians have mentioned that study glove is an effective tool for browsing, and protection of manuscript, publications and books. 94% of librarians have declared that if they use the study glove, in comparison with browsing by hand, the speed of work will increase. The result of research has also shown that application of “study and browsing glove” can be generalized to all libraries and scientific and cultural centers and persons who work with printed materials.

University libraries are the most important centers for information provision. They can play their role and provide necessary information for student researches through right planning. The present study aims to examine rate of satisfaction from different services offered in central library of Semnan University of Medical Sciences. It is a descriptive study done using survey method. The research population consists of all the students that are members of the library, of which a sample of 290 members was chosen. Data were collected by questionnaire. Analysis of data is made by descriptive statistics using SPSS. Results of this research show that 45/9% of students were satisfied with the offered services; 56/5% of them didn’t know about computer system for searching the sources available in the library. Lack of update reference books, scarcity of Persian books copies and lack of computer systems were among the most common factors affecting dissatisfaction.

The aim of the present research is the investigation of the research output of faculty members of Tehran pharmacy colleges according to h-index factor which is a new method of scientometrics. This research has been achieved with evaluation measurement research method and the needed information collected by checklist. Hypothesis has been evaluated statistically by Pearson’s correlation test. Number of research society was 107 faculty members of 3 Tehran pharmacy colleges. In this study, h-index was calculated from the articles and citation of the research society indexed in Scopus and Web of Science. Research findings indicate that highest article's number belong to a member from Tehran University of Medical Sciences with 193 articles, in this university most distribution of articles was between 10 to 19 articles (%38.46), while the most article’s number in Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences was 57 and in Azad University was 26 articles. In these two universities the most distribution of articles was between 1 to 9 articles. In addition, the highest citation number in Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences and Azad University were 6793, 442, 187, respectively. In all 3 universities the highest citation number was related to “Toxicology and Pharmacology” Department. The highest h-index between the assistant professors of Tehran University of Medical Sciences was 4 (%26.08), between associate professors was 2 (%27.27) and between professors of this university was 6 (%30). The highest h-index in Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences between assistant professors was 2 (%33.33), between associate professors was 2 (%23.07) and for professors was 6 (%22.22). The highest h-index in Azad University was 2 (%45.45). Nevertheless, the highest h-index in research society was 20 related to a professor from Tehran University of Medical Sciences. Testing hypotheses of this research show that there is a significant relation between h-index and article numbers and also between h-index and citation numbers.

The specific goal of this research is to study the utilization of the Internet among the libraries of Qom universities, using a descriptive-analytical method. The research society of this study is all libraries in the Qom universities making use of the Internet. The number of libraries is 17 (with totally 59 librarians) and through questionnaire required data were collected. Research findings Show that 76/5% of libraries in the Qom universities have access to the Internet (81/3% of librarians in the research). Average rate of Internet usage among librarians is between 1 to 2 hours per day. 28/8% of librarians use e-mail in reference and information department, 88/1% use the Internet for high speed and accuracy and providing good services to users in a short time and also having a better use of the time and place in library. The results of this study show that the Internet in reference and information department plays a significant role, while in the circulation department does less. 45/8% of librarians believe that lack of familiarity with Internet and its applications are the main reasons which librarians don’t use of it in providing service to end-users.
