Purpose: This research has been done with the aim of determining the role of informal instructions of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) libraries on the promotion of the user’s information literacy.Methodology: To do this, the survey method was used. The population of this investigation has been 400 users who selected as sample size using stratified random sampling.Findings: According to the findings, the level of information literacy of 43% of users was high and moderate and 57% of them were at least and less level. Based on the 36.9% of the users’ view points, the library is very effective in teaching information retrieval skills. On the other hand, 63.1% of users have told that the library has been very efficient in obtaining information retrieval skills. The results of the research indicates that “the self-learning” (trial and error) (51.4%) was the most important factor in increasing the users’ ability on having availability to the information literacy skills. 84% of the users with the high information literacy have known the effectiveness of the library in responding to the information requirements. In addition, the most important instructional priority for the users’ information literacy is the familiarity with the electronic references (73%). At last, the most important obstacle hindering the availability to the information in the library is the lack of any relationship with the other scientific centers (64.3%).Conclusion: The results of this investigation indicate that the users with the high information literacy used frequently the library for their information requirements. Also, according to the users’ viewpoints for junior college students, the library is more effective on acquiring information retrieval skills.

Purpose: This research aims to survey the relationship between librarians’ emotional intelligence and empowerment, who work in Tabriz academic libraries.Methodology: For attaining this goal, we have used two research instruments, that included two questionnaires, Bar-On EI Scale and Model (consist of 30 questions for Emotional Intelligence Measurement), Nokelainen and Ruhotie Empowerment Model, consist of 10 questions for Empowerment Measurement. These questionnaires were distributed among 136 samples, who were working in Tabriz universities. Then, results of measurement have been analyzed using statistical descriptive and inferential methods (Pearson’s Correlation Test and Linear Regression).Findings: According to the findings, there is a significant relation (0.404 Pearson Correlations and 0.163 R Square) between EI and Empowerment of academic librarians in Tabriz. The score of EI has been attained 111.5221, which in comparison with scale (90-120) is high. And, the score of librarians’ empowerment has been attained 40.6838. This score in comparison with scale (40-50) is very high.Conclusion: This research is the first report to collect data relating to librarians’ emotional intelligence and empowerment in Iran.

Purpose: This research aims at determining the subject distribution of articles published in “Faslname-ye Ketab” and “Library and Information Science” quarterlies in 2006 and 2007, the number of written and translated articles, sex of the article authors and their educational degrees.Methodology: The journals were studied via the survey method in the form of content analysis. To collect the needed data, several checklists have been used. The descriptive statistics are used for data analysis.Findings: Totally, subjects “libraries and resource centers” and “computerized information storage and retrieval” were the highest subject tendencies, while subject “library building and equipment” was less considered in articles.Conclusion: Using chi-square (x2), it was concluded that both journals had the same performance in terms of subject coverage.

Purpose: The aims of this study is to test and evaluate the students’ familiarity with network skills which can be considered as effective and determinant factors in the implementation and execution of e-learning in Payam-e Noor University.Methodology: It was done using descriptive survey method. In order to gather the desirable data, a researcher-made questionnaire was used. The sample size composed of 356 students of Payam-e Noor University of Dezful. Data analysis was done using SPSS software (version 14).Findings: The network skills of the students were estimated in a level less than the average limit. The findings also showed a significant relationship between internet skills and using e-journals.Conclusion: It was recommended that it is necessary to hold the purposeful and systematic user education programs for training ICDL and internet skills before the registration of the students in order to provide a suitable bed for the implementation and execution of e-learning in Payam-e Noor University.

Purpose: This study aims to do an investigation into the level of information technology application in academic libraries located in Zanjan.Methodology: The research method used descriptive survey. The research society includes 19 Zanjan academic libraries.Findings: The most hardware facilities in the library include computer, printer, speakers, CD writer, the phone and most software facilities are the comprehensive software library and instructional CDs. The highest use of electronic resources in the libraries was related to the electronic CD (52.6%) and electronic journals (42.1%). The most usage of information technology (IT) has been observed in two parts of cataloging and information services (64.7%).Conclusion: Generally, information technology equipment and facilities have been used in the libraries at low level, and also the level of application of information technology in Zanjan academic libraries is under 50%.

Purpose This research aims to study the status of pre-university centers’ libraries in Arak in terms of mission and policy, budget, space and equipment, library collection, staff, services and activities, promotion of library services and learning in comparison with the School Library Standards.Methodology: The method used is descriptive survey and for collecting the data the questionnaire was used. It was sent to all 34 pre-university centers and 30 copies were returned. For analyzing the data, SPSS software was utilized.Findings: The findings showed that totally, pre-university centers’ libraries in Arak have observed the School Library Standards in mission and policy 67.66%, budget 66.68%, space and equipment 88.33%, library collection 50%, staff 91.11%, services and activities 59.99%, promotion of library services and learning 70%.Conclusion: Emphasizing that status quo of the libraries can be better than current condition, some suggestions for improving the status of these libraries were presented.

Purpose: The main object of this research is to evaluate information seeking behavior of Arak University faculty members in using the Internet. Furthermore, this research examines differences between information seeking behavior among humanities, natural sciences, engineering and agricultural science; as well as examines relation between factors such as computer skills and its impact on information searching behavior; sexuality and its relation with the rate of computer using.Methodology: The research method in this research is survey method. The faculty members of Arak University constitute the popularity of this research. Also, questionnaire is the research’s information gathering tool.Findings: The findings of research showed that most important aim of information search among faculty members are research purpose, educational and updating special information, and most uses belong to electronic magazines and databases. Web, e-mail and chat rooms are most important possibilities of Internet, and search engines, address of information sources and meta search engines are the most effective search tools. Also, advanced searching, keyword searching and simple searching are most using methods for information searching in the Internet. The network traffic and low speed of Internet are main difficulties in using of this technology. Furthermore, they mentioned that the network traffic, low speed of accessing to the Internet and the lack of access to the original files are their main challenges in using the Internet technology.Conclusion: The information seeking behavior of faculty members are different. There is a significant relation between information resources and verbal skill variables, and also between the rate of using the Internet and sex variable.

Purpose: The main purpose of the present research is to investigate the attitude of the governmental special library managers toward the purchasing electronic resources. To achieve this purpose, the state of the art of electronic resources and problems of preparing and the way of providing them were investigated.Methodology: The research population consisted of 86 Tehran special governmental library managers, and 60 managers replied the questionnaire. Questionnaire was used to gather the data. To analyze them, descriptive and inferential statistics, T test and ANOVA were employed. Also, Excel 2003 and SPSS software were used to analyze the statistics.Findings: The findings of the research indicated that more than 50.57% of managers have had positive attitude towards electronic resources and providing and purchasing of them. The results showed that although there are some electronic resources in majority of special libraries, but according to the growth of electronic resources in the world libraries and their advantages, the amount of electronic resources in the above mentioned libraries should be continuously increased.Conclusion: The most important problems affecting preparing electronic resources are high cost of purchasing electronic resources as well as needed equipment, and weak policy for selection of different electronic resources. By increasing the budget of their libraries (at least more than 10% of budget), they can afford to buy and prepare electronic resources and their equipment more adequately and efficiently.
