Background & Aims: As nurses' work engagement (WE) is associated with outcomes such as organizational commitment and job satisfaction, efforts to improve it seem necessary. The first step toward this goal is to identify the factors that affect it. Therefore, the present study was conducted to determine the relationship between perceived organizational support (POS) and nurses' WE and its dimensions. Materials & Methods: The present study was a descriptive correlational one. The statistical population included nurses of educational hospitals in Birjand, from which 120 nurses were included in the study by multistage sampling. Data were collected using Utrecht WE and Eisenberger POS questionnaires. Data analysis was performed by using descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation-coefficient, one-way analysis of variance, and independent t-test. Results: The results showed that there was a positive and significant correlation between the vigor dimension of WE and POS (r=0. 33, p<0. 05). Although a positive and significant correlation was observed between POS and the total score of WE and its other dimensions (dedication and absorption), but this correlation is less than 0. 3 and is considered weak (r<0. 3, p<0. 05). The dedication dimension of WE was significantly different between men and women and the mean of this dimension was higher in women (p<0. 05). Conclusion: As POS can affect WE and its dimensions, nursing managers should to promote nurses' WE by creating a supportive environment and considering individual factors.

Background & Aims: The birth of a premature baby and his/her hospitalization at birth, affects on family function. This study aimed to identify the effect of family-centered care on family function of preterm newborns hospitalized in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Materials & Methods: In this quasi-experimental study, Parents of 60 premature infants with fetal age between 30 and 36 weeks hospitalized in the NICU of Hafez Hospital in Shiraz were selected by convenience sampling method. They then were randomly assigned to the control and experimental groups (30 parents in each group). In the experimental group, family-centered care was performed on the parents of premature infants admitted in four steps, before the seventh day of hospitalization with the presence of the researcher and the family next to the infant. Family function was measured using the Family Assessment Device (FAD). The data was analyzed by SPSS (v. 24) using descriptive and statistics tests such as t-test and ANCOVA. Results: The mean score of family function of mothers in the pre-intervention stage in the control group was 186. 20 ±, 7. 48 and in the experimental group was 188. 43±, 5. 96. After the intervention, the mean score of family function of parents in the control group was 185. 73±,7. 13 and in the experimental group was 181. 26±, 8. 83, which had a significant decrease compared to them before the intervention, showing improvement. The results of univariate analysis of covariances (ANCOVA) showed that familycentered care had an effect on the test group and improved their family performance. Conclusion: Implementing family-centered care by emphasizing the presence of family members, especially the father next to the mother leads to improving the family function of premature infant more than the usual care methods. These interventions are cost-effective, feasible, practical, and effective, and the effective participation of parents in the care of the baby will have positive effects on the process of his/her recovery

Background & Aim: Using the best evaluation method is particularly important for students in intensive care lession. In this regard, direct observation of practical skills is one of the new clinical evaluation methods that allow students to receive constructive feedback. This study aimed to determine the effect of evaluation through direct observation of procedural skills on clinical performance and satisfaction of nursing students in intensive care units. Materials & Methods: This quasi-experimental study included 64 nursing students studying in the 7th semester of bachelor's degree in Urmia nursing school. Students were randomly divided into intervention (32 individuals,15 male students and 17 female students) and control (32 individuals,13 male students and 19 female students) groups. In the intervention group, the evaluation was performed by direct observation of procedural skilling methods including dressing change, intravenous (IV) line insertion, and suctioning activities of students on the first day, one week later, and two weeks later. In all three stages of the evaluation, students gave feedback for fifteen minutes. In the control group, evaluation was performed by the logbook method. In both groups, standard checklists were provided to the students. SPSS software version 19 and Student T-test and repeated measures analysis of variance were used in data analysis. The significance level was set at 5%. Results: The final score of the dressing change in the intervention group was higher than the control group (P <0. 001). Students in the intervention group had also higher final IV-line insertion and suctioning scores than the control group (P <0. 001). Furthermore, in the intervention group, the score of direct observation of procedural skills for dressing change, IV-line insertion, and suctioning increased significantly from the first to the third stage (P <0. 001). Conclusion: This study showed that students evaluated by direct observation of procedural skills method achieved a higher score than students evaluated by the logbook method. Hence, instructors and clinical professors can use direct observation of practical skills as an effective method in evaluating and learning nursing students, especially in the intensive care unit.

Background & Aims: Parturition is one of the most important events in women's lives, and therefore, factors that lead to a reduction in pain and its consequences during childbirth with minimal intervention are important for researchers. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between midwifery counseling along with type of delivery and the rate of anxiety, stress, and depression in primiparous women in Niknafs Hospital of Rafsanjan in2021. Materials & Methods: This was a cross-sectional and descriptive study. The statistical population included all primiparous pregnant women who volunteered for natural childbirth in Niknafs Hospital of Rafsanjanfrom March to August 2021, numbering 199. In this study, a checklist and a questionnaire were used. The checklist included demographic information and clinical characteristics of the patient and a questionnaire (Stress, anxiety, depression questionnaire DASS) for stress, anxiety and depression were assessed. The confidence level was considered as 0. 05. Thestatistical software used was SPSS version 20. Results: The results showed that there were significant relationships between age (p = 0. 03) and economic status (p = 0. 00) with the type of delivery. Based on statistical analyses, the mean, Chi-square, and Mann-Whitney tests, there was a significant correlation between midwife support with mean stress score and anxiety (p = 0. 03) and also between midwife support and depression (p = 0. 01). Nevertheless, there was no significant relationship between the mean stress score and type of delivery (p = 0. 30), anxiety (p = 0. 27) and depression (p = 0. 51). Conclusion: Supporting a trained midwife on a maternity bed reduces her stress, anxiety, and depression in pregnant women, which has a positive effect on mother-infant relationships in midwifery and medical care. Therefore, it should be used to support childbirth and increase positive childbirth experiences in pregnant mothers.

Abstract:

Background & Aims: One of the concepts that has been recently emphasized in the care of chronic diseases such as chronic kidney disease (CKD) is the activity of patient in his/her health management, which is called patient activation. Knowing the level of patient activation can help physicians and nurses implementing high quality care and proper patient education. The aim of this study was to evaluate the patients' activation and the factors affecting it in patients undergoing hemodialysis. Methods & Materials: In this cross-sectional study, a total of 180 patients undergoing hemodialysis were selected from the largest hemodialysis center in Iran by simple random sampling. Data collection was performed using demographic information and patient activation measure (PAM). Data were analyzed by SPSS software ver. 26 using ANOVA, t-test, and Pearson correlation coefficient tests. Results: The results showed that the mean activation score for hemodialysis patients was 56. 25±, 16. 77 and most of them were in level 1 of activation. The analysis showed that the mean activation score was statistically significant in terms of marital status, place of living, educational level, history of kidney transplantation, income, and age of the patients (P values were under 0. 05 for all). Conclusion: In general, the activation rate of hemodialysis patients was moderate and a limited number of samples were in level 4 of patient activation. Therefore, it is suggested that the activation level of patients should be assessed in early stages of diagnosis of CKD, and then the patients' care should be provided in accordance with the activation level of individuals and based on person-centered approaches.
