Abstract:

Background & Aims: Cancer is one of the main causes of death and disability in the world. One of the main ways to treat this disease is chemotherapy. Despite its importance, some patients neglect to do it. This study aimed to investigate the patient's experience of the obstacles to participating in chemotherapy. Materials & Methods: The present study is a qualitative study that was conducted using in-depth and semi-structured interviews with 44 participants. The data were analyzed by conventional content analysis using MAXQDA version 10 software. Results: By analyzing the findings, there are nine subcategories including 1-lack of support from the surrounding environment, 2-cultural and social bottlenecks in front of chemotherapy, 3-personal helplessness of the patient, 4-personal beliefs of the patient, 5-non-compliance with the conditions of the disease and treatment, 6-economic conditions of the patient, 7-non-availability of appropriate treatment facilities, 8-Poor professional skills of the treatment staff, and 9-bad outcome despite the treatment. These subclasses were finally formed into three main classes: 1-lack of support from the surrounding environment, 2-Obstacles related to the patient, and 3-Obstacles related to treatment. Conclusion: The experience of patients showed that there are three main obstacles against chemotherapy. Dealing with some of these obstacles requires education to the patient and family, as well as micro and macro changes at the level of medical centers. Others require structural changes in the culture of the society and the policies of the Ministry of Health.

Abstract:

Background & Aims: Care is a complex and subjective concept, and most nursing theorists consider it the most important action of nurses in dealing with patients. However, inaccuracy in providing comprehensive care by the medical staff has caused disintegration of care and thus the concept of fragmented care (FC) is formed. Although this concept is often used by researchers, its dimensions have not been fully identified. The aim of this study was to analyze the concept of FC. Materials & Methods: Concept Analysis of FC based on the Walker and Avant's method (2019) was carried out in eight steps by searching and analyzing studies from reliable information databases such as Scopus, PubMed, Web of Sciences, and Google Scholar search engine. We used the keywords: Fragmentation, Fragmented, and Care without time limit until May 2022. Finally, 26 articles related to the concept were analyzed. Results: FC had different dimensions. Lack of coordination, planning, teamwork, and holistic view were the most important dimensions. This type of care can occur at different relationship levels of nursepatient, both within and between wards and different medical centers. Conclusions: The present study identified different dimensions of the concept of FC. Future studies can use the results of this study to develop a scale as well as to design interventions effective in reducing its incidence.

Abstract:

Background & Aims: Adolescence is one of the most important and valuable periods of every person's life, because it is the beginning of physical and psychological changes. Separation from a parent, however, can disrupt the family framework and extend the tension of this period. On the other hand, the adolescent learns how to organize the society around him and take responsibility for his actions through the family. It seems that being a single parent can disrupt the process of adolescents' commitment. This study aimed to determine the effect of life skills education on the responsibility of adolescent girls with a single parent. Materials & Method: This research was a quasi-experimental study with a pre-test-post-test design and a control group. It was conducted in 2021 on 100 adolescent girls with a single parent aged 15-18 years. In this study, multistage sampling was performed to select participants, then they were randomly allocated to control and intervention groups. Eligible participants completed the demographic characteristic and adolescent responsibility questionnaire before and after the intervention and 4-6 weeks after the intervention. Virtual group education sessions were implemented on Sky room for 6090 minutes. Each group included 6-10 people, and ten group training sessions with one-week interval were conducted. Data were analyzed using an independent t-test and analysis of variance with repeated measures by SPSS software version 22. P-values less than 0. 05 were considered significant. Result: The results showed a statistically significant difference between the mean score of responsibility of female adolescents in the intervention and control groups after the intervention (P <0. 001). Conclusion: According to the results of this study, life skills educations could increase their responsibility. Considering the responsibility for the growth and personal, academic and social health of students and ultimately the progress of society, life skill programs are recommended for adolescent girls with a single parent.
