Introduction: PCBs are chemical resistant and biodegradable compounds which can have harmful effects on human health and the environment. These compounds are used in thermal, hydraulic, lubricating, pesticides, cosmetics, paint and paint products, adhesives, plastics, carbonless paper and electrical industries such as capacitors, transformer oils, disconnectors and fluorescent lamps. In the present study, we will review the PCBs composition in the environment, their health effects, identifying and removal methods. Methods: this review study was conducted by searching in Iranian and international high validity indexes of Elsevier، Springer، PubMed، Magiran، google scholar، SID، CIVILICA, using English keywords of: Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs)، Environment، Health Effect، Water Contamination، degradation، Remediation and Persian keywords of: PBCs, environment, health effects, water pollution, removal during 1980-2017. Results: results were categorized and compared in four sections of: effects of PCBs (effects on the environment, human and animals), physical and chemical properties, measurement methods (four main chemical methods, final estimation of colorimetry, electrometry, X-ray fluorescence and gas chromatography) and removal methods of PCBs compounds (three main physicals, microbial and chemical groups). Conclusion: according to the findings, the effect of PCBs compounds on the environment, human and animals, and their accumulation in the food stuffs was high and therefore it is necessary to be measured and monitored continuously and disintegration and disposal is the best controlling way. Finally, the best method for removal of PCBs in water, sewage, sludge and ships has been introduced.

Introduction: Anthropometric indices and metabolic risk factors of cardiovascular disease due to inadequate physical activity have been identified as factors influencing health. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to compare the anthropometric indices and cardiovascular risk factors with standard norms in academic members. Materials and Methods: The statistical sample of the study consisted of all (30 women and 128 men) faculty members of Azad university of Khomeinishahr. Anthropometric indices (Height, Wight, Waist Circumference, Hip Circumference, Waist to hip ratio, waist to stature ratio, Body mass index and Body fat%) and cardiovascular risk factors (Triglyceride, Total cholesterol, High density lipoprotein, and Low density lipoprotein) were determined and compared them with standard norms. Meanwhile, the level of physical activity was estimated by Baekce Physical Activity Questionnaire. For data analysis, statistical significances were assessed by t test and Pearson correlation. Results: The results of this study showed that in all of the indices of anthropometric, the subjects were normal except in BF% (P > 0/05). Also, in cardiovascular risk factors, men in TG, Tcho, and LDL indices were normal levels, However they were at risk in the HDL, and FBS indices (P > 0/05). Indeed, in women, there was a significant relationship between the level of physical activity and waist circumference, hip circumference, WHR, WSR and BMI. Conclusion: It seems that some anthropometric indices and cardiovascular risk factors are high in faculty members. Therefore, interventions in lifestyle, regular evaluations, and prevention program for modifying these factors need to be considered seriously.

Abstract:

Introduction: Beta thalassemia major is the most common genetic disease in the world. The most common areas of this disease in the world are known as the Thalassemia Belt, which also includes Iran. Kerman province (and especially south of Kerman) ranks first in Iran in terms of the prevalence of thalassemia carriers. Hence, the present study was conducted to investigate the causes of thalassemia major after the start of the national thalassemia prevention program in Jiroft city. . Materials and Methods: In this retrospective and descriptive study, data of thalassemia major patients born after the start of the prevention program between the years 2001 and 2015 were collected and analyzed using descriptive statistics and SPSS software. Results: In a little narrative, the coefficient of influence of all items was more than 1/5. The ratio of validity was between 0/62 and 1 and the content validity index of each section was greater than 0. 79, all of which were acceptable. The reliability of the questionnaire was performed using Cronbach's alpha coefficient which was calculated for knowledge (0/74), attitude (0/70), mental norms(0/73), perceived behavioral control(0/85), behavioral intention(0/ 85) and behavioral 0/70, was estimated. Results: Out of 91 thalassemia patients, 53% (n=48) were under the age of 10 years, about 23% of couples did not perform screening before marriage, and about 77% had thalassemia child despite performing screening. In terms of the first trimester of prenatal diagnosis, about 79% of couples did not have it and 21% had thalassemia child despite performing the screening Conclusion: This study showed that in spite of the decreasing trend of thalassemia births after the start of the prevention program in Jiroft city, this trend has been much less compared to other areas of the country and more than half of the births have occurred during the last ten years (after the start of the prevention program). Therefore, the main cause of new births of thalassemia is the low quality of the diagnosis prevention program (screening) and promoting the quality of its implementing is being felt at all dimensions. In addition, health education programs for target groups can be effective in eliminating this disease.
