Abstract:

Introduction: Nurses have a great influence on reducing the stress of parents because of their exceptional situation in intensive care units. The aim of this study was to investigate the communication performance of nurses and satisfaction with hospital care from the viewpoints of mothers of newborns admitted to the neonatal intensive care units of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences in 2015. Methods: This is a cross sectional descriptive-correlational study. The population consists of 220 mothers of newborns admitted to neonatal intensive care units of three hospitals of Namazi, Hafez and Hazrat Zainab. The data collection tool was a questionnaire consisting of three sections: demographic data of mothers, the questionnaire of communication performance and satisfaction with hospital care. Results: In this study, the mean age of mothers was 27 years, the average duration of the hospitalization of newborns was ten days and the average gestational age was 36 weeks. In addition, the mean communication performance of the nurses was lower than the mean satisfaction of mothers. Comparing the dimensions of satisfaction, satisfaction with hospital care had lower average than other dimensions. Communication performance had no significant relationship with the satisfaction dimensions and P > 0. 05 but it had a significant relationship with total satisfaction (P = 0. 001). Conclusions: Concerning the importance of the nurses’ position, communication, educational and caring skills should be further strengthening to enhance the satisfaction of mothers. Also according to the results obtained from this research, it appears that mothers require better relationship with nurses based on the cause of the hospitalization of their children. Along with being sensitive towards the caring needs of the newborns, nurses should have a proper interaction with parents.

Abstract:

Introduction: Endotracheal suctioning is one of common painful invasive procedures which are frequently performed on admitted babies is regarded as one of the most important caring challenges. This study aimed to determine the effect of lullabies with mother's voice on physiological responses followed by endotracheal suction in premature infants. Methods: This study is a clinical trial and it was done for five months on 40 preterm infants admitted in NICU in Afzalipour Hospital affiliated to Kerman University of Medical Sciences in 2016. After choosing the samples through continence sampling, infants were divided into two groups of Routine care / Lullaby and Lullaby / Routine care. In the intervention time, mother’ s lullaby was played for the infants five minutes before the suction and it continued until 10 minutes after the suction. The infants’ physiological responses (including the percent of arterial blood oxygen saturation, respiration and heart rate) were examined a minute before the suction of endotracheal systems as baseline data and after the suction it was measured every five minutes to thirty minutes. The statistical analysis was performed by using SPSS 23. Results: The results showed that a mother's lullaby in intubated preterm infants who were suctioned, not only was effective on fast return of breathing changes and heart rate after the suction, but also it reduced respiratory rate and heart rate. These changes showed no significant difference in the blood oxygen levels (spo2) of intubated babies who got oxygen through system. Conclusions: Mothers lullaby in taking care of preterm infants can a significant impact on their neonatal physiological responses.

Introduction: In the framework of structural equations, the relationships between these variables had an acceptable fit and all the research hypotheses were approved. In other words, the correlation between IQ with meaningful thinking, IQ correlation with academic performance, and correlation between critical thinking and academic performance were positive and significant. Methods: The present study is a correlational study. The statistical population of this study was all students of Khorram Darreh high school in the academic year of 1996-96. A total of 300 people were selected through multi-stage random sampling. Data were collected from: Raven Evolutionary Matrices, Critical Thinking Questionnaire and GPA. Data were analyzed using spss version 18 and Amos version 20 software. Results: In the framework of structural equations, the relationships between these variables had an acceptable fit and all the research hypotheses were approved. In other words, the correlation between IQ with meaningful thinking, IQ correlation with academic performance, and correlation between critical thinking and academic performance were positive and significant. Conclusions: IQs either directly or indirectly correlated with critical thinking with academic performance. In other words, using critical thinking skills can be a good result of academic performance, because using critical thinking leads to meaningful learning development in students. Therefore, it is suggested that critical thinking skills be defined as a single syllabus, in order to strengthen the students' academic performance, provide admissions with the critique of their opinions and opinions.
