Abstract: 

Background: The formation of islet amyloid polypeptide (IAPP) have been proposed for d increased -cell apoptosis in type 2 diabetes. Exercise training plays a protective role against diabetes. Alpha lipoic acid (ALA) is a powerful biological antioxidant. However, the role of exercise training and ALA on IAPP are not well understood. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of training with different intensity and Alpha lipoic acid supplement on pancreatic mRNA IAPP in rats with type 2 diabetes. Methods: In this experimental study, 35 wistar rats were randomly divided into seven groups: control, diabetic (D), diabetic+ alpha lipoic acid (ALA), diabetic high intensity training (HIT), diabetic moderate intensity training (MIT), diabetes HIT+ALA (ALA+HIT), diabetic MIT +ALA (ALA+MIT). The HIT and MIT protocols was performed five days a week for six weeks. HIIT included 10 bouts of four minutes (running at 85– 90% of VO2max) and MIT 13 bouts of four minutes (running at 65– 70% of VO2max). ALA was administered orally 20 mg/kg once a day by gavage. Real-time PCR method for the relative expression of mRNA of IAPP gene were used. Results: The level of IPAA increased significantly in diabetic group compared to control (p=0. 0039). Also, level of IPAA decreased significantly in ALA (p=0. 01) and ALA+HIT diabetic group (p=0. 021). Conclusion: diabetes is associated with increased mRNA IAPP in pancreatic -cell and HIT plus ALA can be as an effective intervention in decreasing IAPP in pancreatic -cell. in diabetics.

Abstract: 

Background: AMPK and P53 proteins regulate the TOR protein in the TORC1 complex, which regulates many physiological processes. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of AMPK and P53 proteins on the TOR pathway following endurance training in the left ventricle of the heart of diabetic rats by streptozotocin and nicotinamide. Methods: In this experimental study, 12 head two-month-old Sprague-Dawley rats with a mean weight of 270± 20 g were selected. After diabetic induction with streptozotocin and Nicotinamide, rats were randomly assigned to two groups, training and control (6 heads in group each). The training group performed endurance training on a treadmill for rodents for 6 weeks and 4 sessions per week for 42 minutes with an intensity of about 50 to 70% of the maximum speed. SPSS software version 23 and independent t-test were used to analyze the data. Results: Six weeks of endurance training led to significant increase in the protein content of AMPK (P=0. 009) and TOR (P=0. 005) between training and control groups in the left ventricular tissue of the heart muscle. In contrast, a significant decrease in P53 protein content was observed between the training and control groups in the left ventricular tissue of the heart muscle (P=0. 0001). Conclusion: The results showed that endurance training can with increase the content of AMPK and TOR proteins and decrease the content of P53 protein to regulate processes such as metabolism, mitochondrial biogenesis, cardiac hypertrophy, inhibition of autophagy in the hearts of diabetic subjects.

Abstract: 

Background: Family members of C1q/tumor necrosis factor (TNF) related proteins (CTRPs) have been shown to play an important role in metabolism and inflammation. However, there is limited information on the association of high-intensity intermittent exercise (HIIT) with CTRP1 and CTRP3 protein levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the effects of 12 weeks HIIT on CTRP1 and CTRP3 protein levels in women with type 2 diabetes. Methods: In a quasi-experimental study and pretest and post-test design, 30 women with type 2 diabetes (mean± SD, age: 40. 69± 4. 21 years and body mass index: 34. 81± 2. 88 kg/m 2 ) were randomly into two HIIT group (n=10) and control group (n=15). Exercise group performed a HIIT program three sessions per week, with and intensity of 80-90% MHR, 60 minutes per session for twele weeks. Weight, BMI, Vo2peak, FBG and serum levels of CTRP1 and CTRP3 were measured before and after the study period. The data were analyzed using paired sample t test and analysis of ANCOVA at the level of less than 0. 05. Results: After 12 weeks HIIT, there was significant differences in weight, BMI, Vo2peak, FBG and CTRP3 and CTRP5 serum levels between groups (p >0. 05). However, ANCOVA test showed a significant decrease in weight, BMI, FBG and CTRP1 and CTRP3 serum levels and a significant increase in Vo2peak in the HIIT group compared to the control group after intervention (P<0. 05). Conclusion: The findings suggest that 12 weeks of HIIT program were an effective and safe method of improving the CTRP1 and CTRP3 serum levels in obese women with type 2 diabetes. However, more research with more control are needed to determine the effects of this non-pharmacological intervention on anti-inflammatory adipokine.

Abstract: 

Background: TORC1 protein is an important factor in regulating adipose tissue metabolism. Type 2 diabetes can lead to dysfunction and the development of obesity. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of eight weeks of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) and endurance on blood glucose and TORC1 protein content in subcutaneous adipose tissue of obese with type 2 diabetes rats. Methods: In this study, 18 head 2 Sprague-Dawley male rats with a mean weight of 270± 30 g were selected. After becoming type 1 diabetic through streptozotocin and Nicotine amide solution, they were randomly divided into 3 groups: 1) HIIT training 2) endurance training and 3) control (6 heads per group). Exercise groups exercised 4 days a week for 8 weeks according to HIIT and endurance training programs. SPSS software version 23, one-way ANOVA and Tukey post hoc test were used to analyze the data. Result: Eight weeks of HIIT and endurance training resulted in a significant decrease in blood glucose level (p<0. 0001) and a significant increase in TORC1 protein content (P<0. 0001) compared to the control group. Conclusion: HIIT and endurance training lowered blood glucose levels and increase TORC1 protein content, which this training can be a suitable and non-invasive treatment to control diabetes and also regulate adipose tissue metabolism in type 2 diabetics who are prone to obesity.

Abstract: 

Background: In this study, we investigated the diagnostic power of ultrasound in the diagnosis of malignancy in thyroid nodules in Iranian patients. For this purpose, we examined the relationship between ultrasound findings and pathology findings. Methods: The present study is a retrospective study. The patients with a diagnosis of thyroid nodules who underwent ultrasound and FNA, were included in this study. To assess the relationship between the results of FNA and the ultrasound characteristics of nodules, we classified the results of FNA into malignant and benign groups and then compared ultrasound characteristics between the two groups. In cases which the FNA results were indeterminate (AUS/FLUS or FN/SFN), the postoperative pathology result was considered (if thyroid surgery was done and the result was available). Results: In total, 201 nodules were included in this study. The results showed that hypoechogenicity, irregular/ill-defined margin, microcalcification, malignant flow pattern in Doppler sonography and concurrent cervical lymphadenopathy with suspicious features were significantly associated with malignant thyroid nodules. However, other ultrasound findings, such as the size and location of the nodule, presence of a cystic components within the nodule, the presence of a Halo sign, and the presence of a taller-than-wide shape, could not distinguish between benign and malignant nodules. Finally, the results of the present study showed that the accuracy of ultrasound in the diagnosis of malignancy in thyroid nodules is high. Conclusion: This study suggests that the use of ultrasound can be very effective in diagnosing malignancy in thyroid nodules.
