Abstract

The aim of this study is to evaluate the capability of e-collection of scholarly Farsi language periodical at the Regional Information Centers of Science and Technology in Shiraz to be replaced for printed collection of Farsi periodicals in Ferdowsi University of Mashhad. The titles available in periodical collection of FUM and RICeST were compared to the official list of scholarly journals published by the Ministry of Science. It was found that the number of periodicals available in Ricest is more than the number of periodicals available at FUM. The most important finding was that the articles of collection of periodicals are at FUM could not be retrieved by subjects as well as by authors or titles. Whereas these kind of searches were available in RICeST database.The only weak point of RICeST fulltext article is that the articles published in current (this year) journals are not supported.If this weak point could be eliminated most university libraries could change their periodical collection policies and a substantial amount of money could be saved for other needed information sources.
