Abstract

Introduction: Since NUTRITION is one of the important factors influencing health and well-being of people, and it is also highly critical for STUDENT's health, this study investigates the impacts of SOCIOECONOMIC determinants on NUTRITION status of the STUDENT who reside in Shiraz University of medical science dormitories. Methods: In this cross- sectional study, 405 STUDENTs were selected through multistage sampling procedure, and their NUTRITION status was investigated via a questionnaire. STATA statistical software (version 9.1) was used to analyze the data through one-way ANOVA.Results: There was a significant relationship between receiving Carbohydrate, Protein, B6 & B12 vitamins, Phosphate (P<0.005) A & C vitamins, Iron (P<0.001) and gender. The consumption of C and A vitamins, phosphate and iron had significant relationship with level of education. There was a positive correlation between the years of residence in DORMITORY and vitamin C (r=0.2 and P<0.001) and Calcium (r=0.1 and P<0.05) intake. The relationship between family income and the combined INDICATOR of receiving micro- and macronutrients was significant (0.054±0.014).Conclusion: In this study, the family income and parents’ educational level were two important determinants for NUTRITION patterns in STUDENTs residing in dormitories. In addition, gender functioned as a determining factor in in-taking some micronutrients and acronutrients.
