Abstract

Introduction & Objective: Knowledge, understanding and application of principles of RADIATION PROTECTION by staff can play an important role for their safety. This study was designed to evaluation of nurse’s AWARENESS of principles of RADIATION PROTECTION in Shahid Behesti Hospital.Materials & Methods: In this cross-sectional study, all nurses working in Shahid Behesti Hospital during 2013-2014 were included. For data collecting, we used researcher-made questionnaire whose validity was confirmed by experts in the relevant field. The first section included basic information and the second part included questions about protection issues and regulations relating to RADIATION PROTECTION. The data were analyzed using statistical software such as the SPSS V.20 using chi-square and t-test.Results: The study was performed, on 72 staff that 12 Case (16.7%) were males and 60 Case (83.3%) were females.16.7% had a little AWARENESS and 83.3% had a moderate AWARENESS. The 56.9% had participated in training courses and 43.1% not participated. No significant relationship was found between the level of AWARENESS and training courses (P=0.340).Conclusions: According to the results of this study, nurses’ AWARENESS of the principles of RADIATION PROTECTION is not optimal.
