Abstract

Background and Aim: One of the NURSES' most important tasks is to protect PATIENTS' RIGHTS. NURSES will be supportive and more satisfied by the time that they have adequate KNOWLEDGEabout this. The aim of this study was to "determine NURSES 'awareness about the charter ofpatients' rights in Ahvaz educational-teaching hospitals". Materials and Methods: This descriptive-analytic study was conducted in 2014, the samplesconsisted of 331 NURSES from EDUCATIONAL HOSPITALs in Ahvaz with a minimum of 6 months'work experience. They were selected by simple random sampling with proportionalallocation and participated in the study. The research instrument was a researcher-madequestionnaire consisting of 2 sections, the first part containing demographic information, andthe second part containing 20 questions about the five main areas of the patient's rightscharter in order to assess the NURSES' awareness of the patient's charter. Data were analyzed byusing descriptive statistics as well as Chi-square test and SPSS software. Results: The findings of this study showed that 69. 5% of the NURSES had a high level ofknowledge, 30. 2% had moderate KNOWLEDGE and 0. 3% had poor KNOWLEDGE. The most NURSES'knowledge was in the area of "receiving health services" and their least awareness in the fieldof "receiving adequate information". Also, there was a significant correlation between thelevel of KNOWLEDGE of NURSES about patient's rights charter and the variables of workexperience and passing the course in the field of patient rights (P = 0. 001). Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that, KNOWLEDGE of NURSES which were studiedin the scope of the charter of patient rights was notsufficient, which could ultimately lead to alack of observance of PATIENTS' RIGHTS from NURSES and as a result of dissatisfaction of patients. Therefore, the need for more serious and comprehensive training for NURSES in this field isemphasized.
