Title

THE EFFECT OF HIGH INTENSITY INTERVAL TRAINING ON SERUM LEVEL OF OREXIN AAND INSULIN RESISTANCE INDEX IN TYPE 2 DIABETIC MALE RATS

Pages

  31-41

Abstract

Background and Aim: Evidence suggests that orexin regulates the consumption of food, glucose metabolism, and insulin secretion. Orexin may play a role in the pathogenesis of type2 diabetes, but its role in affecting physical activity is unclear. The purpose of this study wasto investigate the effect of 10-week high-intensity interval training (HIIT) on serum level oforexin A and INSULIN RESISTANCE INDEX in type 2 diabetic rats. Material and Method: In this experimental study, 36 Wistar rats aged 8 weeks in a weighingrange of 261± 43 grams were randomly divided into three groups (healthy control, diabeticcontrol, and diabetic with HIIT). The diabetic with HIIT group performed a regular HIITtraining with a treadmill for one week after induction of diabetes. Twenty four hours after the last training session, blood serum of the rats were collected toevaluate the serum levels of OREXIN A and insulin. Data were analyzed using one wayANOVA and Tukey post hoc test in SPSS19 software. Results: 10 weeks of HIIT resulted in a significant decrease in fasting blood glucose (P =0. 000), insulin (P = 0. 001), INSULIN RESISTANCE INDEX (P = 0. 000), and a significant increase inserum levels of OREXIN A (P = 0. 039) in the HIIT group compared to the diabetic controlgroup. Conclusion: High intensity interval training (HIIT) seems to reduce insulin resistance in type2 diabetic rats by increasing levels of OREXIN A levels.
