Abstract

Introduction: Identifying the psychosocial factors that intervene in the creation of Postpartum Depression can lead to reducing the occurrence of this disorder, facilitating health promotion behaviors and effective adaptation of the mother with the child and the family after a stressful period. The purpose of this study was to present a structural model of Postpartum Depression based on Social Support and marital satisfaction with the mediation of parental stress Materials and Methods: The current research was a cross-sectional study. The samples of the research were all women who had just given birth, 415 mothers who referred for natural delivery and caesarean section were collected by random sampling from Motahari Hospital in Jahrom. Data collection tools included the Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale (EPDS), the MOS Social Support Survey (MOS-SSS) Sherbourne and Stewart, the Enrich Marital Satisfaction Scale (EMS) and the short form of Abidin Parenting stress Index (PSI-4-SF), which was completed 4 to 8 weeks after delivery. Data analysis was done using the Analysis of Moment Structures (AMOS) software version 24, and the reliability of the tools was checked by Cronbach's alpha method and with the help of SPSS software version 23. The factorial structure of each instrument was analyzed by confirmatory factor analysis method. Results: Social Support and marital satisfaction cannot have a direct effect on Postpartum Depression. Social Support indirectly (β,=-0. 24, p = 0. 03) has a significant effect on Postpartum Depression through parental stress, and marital satisfaction indirectly through parental stress (β,=-0. 59, p = 0. 02) can be effective on Postpartum Depression. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate the mediating role of parental stress in the relationship between Social Support and marital satisfaction in predicting Postpartum Depression symptoms. Therefore, by reducing parental stress, Postpartum Depression symptoms can be improved.
