Abstract

Today's competitive environment needs managers who can make decisions with high concentration and speed. The manager needs information for making decisions and also needs data for access to information. This can be done manually or using a machinery system. In the manual systems there are some problems:Untimed information accessWrong processVolume of workThese problems would prevent realization of management goals and strategies.In contrast to manual systems, machinery systems include information technology (IT) harware and MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM (MIS) which is the software, and analytical instruments of doing jobs. MIS has also the role of changing data to information. Uses of this approach have some advantages such as: High speed and concentration Ability to process large data and informationThis paper tries to illustrate the role of INFORMATION SYSTEMS (IS) in organizations and firms. It also analyzes and describes steps of design for using MIS for administrative and finance assistant in Public Universities. At the end, it will compare strengths and weaknesses of manual job and machinery systems in providing direct data and information for managers in organizations and firms.
