Abstract

When considering the durability of reinforced concrete structures, Persian Gulf is one of the most aggressive exposure environment in the world. In this region, chloride diffusion and chloride induced reinforcement corrosion; usually leads to a reduced service life of concrete structures and causes significant losses for Persian Gulf states.The paper presents a summary on the state of durability of concrete structures, and the repair of affected structures in the Gulf region. Durability and service life based design is one of the best methods to improve performance of reinforced concrete in harsh environment. Considering the design methods, DuraPGulf, as a new service life design model, provides a realistic prediction of corrosion initiation for reinforced concrete structures in Persian Gulf region.
