Abstract

Globally more than 90% of cargo are carried by ships via sea of which a considerable volume of those is categorized as dangerous goods. Accidents have been occurred due to lack of knowledge based management, in marine transportation in all over the world.Today knowledge and its management are widely used in different fields, from service providing to industrial activities. In this direction the knowledge specially is considered.To deal with knowledge and to apply it for transportation of dangerous goods will guarantee the safe handling of dangerous goods by ships.Within post modern era, knowledge based management covers different subjects. However to recognize the knowledge inside an organization which exists among the workers has an important value, so based on this issue and a model which created for evaluation knowledge based management in order to extract the existing knowledge in a cooperation is discussed by this article.Damage to human, goods, installations and ports, environment, can be occurred when a dangerous cargo not properly carried or stored due to lack of knowledge by those who are involved in handling operation of the dangerous cargoes.International Maritime Organization (IMO) has classified the dangerous goods and prepared a code which is called IMDG code. This code could provide a good knowledge together with experience which gained by people who are handling this kind of cargoes to make safer transportation of dangerous goods by sea.
