Abstract

Color is one of the important elements of the artistic imagination in poetry and hence, every poet applies this unique technique to discover a mysterious world. Iranian poet SOHRAB SEPEHRI and his Iraqi counterpart SAADI YOUSIF have diverse experiences in this field. To these poets, the color has been transformed from a phenomenon to a mental setting hence, this element is counted as an important artistic structure in their poems. However, they have applied this color differently. Sepehri inspired by Romantic School and optimistically sees it as a sign of beauty but Saadi has used it as a symbol for political and social struggles pessimistically influenced from Realist School. The manifested differences of application of color in the poetry of the two aforementioned poets are in a way that Sepehri in a large number of his poems could change the place of colors but such has not been seen in the woks of Saadi. The current paper attempts to review the application of colors in the poems of these two poets.
