Abstract

Background and Objective: Diabetes mellitus is one of the common chronic illnesses which endanger mental health and has widespread effects on individual and social performance. The preset study aimed at the Comparing PSYCHOLOGICAL DIMENSION of individuals with diabets and non-DIABETIC.Methods: The design of this research was case - control study. The study samples consisted of all the patients with diabetis in Ilam. The samples were selected by convenience sampling method. There were 30 males and 30 females in each group. Then, mental health questionnaires (SCL-90) were distributed among the two groups. The data were analyzed by t-test in independent groups.Results: The results indicated that there was a significant difference among the two groups in terms of and mental health (p<0.05).In terms of mental health of variables obsession (p=0.04), aggression (p=0.000), interpersonal sensitivity (p=0.000), anxiety (p=0.008), paranoid imagination (p=0.004), somatization (p =0.017) and depression (p=0.01) was significantly different between two group.Conclusions: Diabetes is a chronic disease that affects patient's mental health. Regarding the increase in the prevalence of diabetes mellitus, necessary PSYCHOLOGICAL assessment of patients for early diagnosis and appropriate treatment of PSYCHOLOGICAL adding to current therapies may suggest.
