Abstract

Height of eloquence in writing is very difficult to attain and many a writer has expressed a wish to do so. Sublimity has been the desire of all from ancient times; it has been stated that it is not acquired but like beauty which is a gift from God, sublime RHETORIC is divine (Hali). Many elements must meet to achieve at language which is eloquent. An important element is the DEMAND OF THE OCCASION and RHETORIC's has been devoted to it. In this essay different definitions of this subject are discussed with the help of great writers such as Sadi, Hafez, Mawlavi, Baihaqi, and Onsor al-Maali. The aim has been to look at the subject in a new way keeping in mind some new literary theories such as "death of the author", "reader-response theory", "hermeneutics"and "postmodemism".
