Abstract

The aim of this study is an analysis of function or role of passive in Persian Language. The word "Function" stands in contrast to "Structure" and shows that the researcher's approach is top – down as opposed to previous researchers who have used bottom - up. In this paper, the function called passive has been defined and its different representations is Persian grammar are discussed. Such a macro look at passive makes it essential to consider structures other than "Partioiplet-shod" as belonging to the domain of passive. Halliday's functional approach has been used in this paper.
